Gaming companies are absolutely terrified of players and many of them would gladly remove chats from their games.
Welcome to the ....ified reality of an overly judicious society, where everything and anything can become a potential piece of a legal process.
And this is why even with profanity filters off chat will censor anything they want.

In game chat would (in the US anyways) be protected under Section 230 which protects corporations and companies from what is said on their platforms by users.

You can thank social media and every low life, scum bag, without anything to do with their useless lives, scanning every opportunity to make an outrage of anything, and spam on sites like Facebook, X, and others, and create a problem where there's none. The spineless cowards in companies like BUNGIE and others are too afraid of any backlash, especially from the usual suspects of the Victimhood Olympics. They have become hostages in this kind of situation. Even when nothing becomes a real issue, they want to prevent any potential "problem," so they will censor anything they perceive could be used against them, no matter how silly it looks.

I wish a company would have the spine to go back to the time when "here is a mute and block button, use them if you don't like something" Instead they treat their playerbase like snowflakes because they can't percieve anybody growing some thick skin. They think everybody is as weak as they are.
