Because its a ready-to-go solution that doesn't need much change on a yearly basis compared to having to reprise haunted forest and fix issues with it caused by the engine changes over the year.
We may see a change to events from next year now that Tyson Green is trying to do some course-correcting within Destiny.

At this point of time and so close to the event, yes you're probably correct. But they did it previously for the haunted sector style event so it wouldn't be unfeasible to change back. What I never understood was the need to change something good that wasn't broken. Crucible and Gambit maps persisted despite the locations being vaulted why couldn't this event.. particularly when it's a 'vex simulation' and the infinite forest has been explored again recently. Missed an opportunity I say.

[quote]What I never understood was the need to change something good that wasn't broken[/quote] May be misremembering the timing but iirc the haunted forest was removed because they vaulted the infinite forest which meant removing all the assets/server side logic etc for it. So it made little sense to remove the infinite forest but still keep everything related to it in-game anyways for the events. It also let them just throw together streamlined events that had a basic thing they would not really need to change besides some slight changes to make it a bit different than the year before. I'd like for the infinite forest styled events to come back, enjoyed the variants of the forest used before (revelry/haunted) and possibly they may be brought back as alternate events but I'm not holding my breath on that happening. If anything does happen it wont be a massive revamp of the events but just something they can throw together in a shortish time that they can reuse annually.
