It honestly doesn't need it.
It's not as long as you think it is.

How long is it ? (realistically, not for someone that’s already completed it and knows exactly what to expect) -
If you go in blind I'd say give yourself about an hour to work out where to go and what to do. Once you know what you're up against it's about 30 minutes to complete and really pretty easy.

Took me about an hour today to complete it for the first time, although I wasn’t rushing after a couple of goes last week where I either ran out of time (I don’t have much time weekdays) or just got spectacularly annoyed at the last boss fight either finding painful ways to kill me or me finding idiotic ways to kill myself Approached it today with a better load out (prismatic voidlock, healing grenades, homing rockets and Graviton with anti-barrier) and it was much easier, as GL is great for vex ad clear and shield bursts (less useful on the cabal sections). Had more trouble with the first boss fight than the main one in the end because I’m just crap at shooting Tormentor shoulder pads If you’re doing it first time blind solo and aren’t like Esoterrick-level play then I’d allow probably ninety minutes, but there are some areas where you don’t need to fight, or don’t have to pick up all of the radiolaria samples. The only obligatory set pieces are the gateway puzzles and the two boss fights. The jumping puzzles can be annoying initially, but there are far worse examples of these lurking elsewhere in the game… Like the other easier Exotic missions (Dead Man’s Tale and Revision Zero) it will get much easier and quicker with repetition and familiarity, and it sounds like they’ll be stacking it with secrets as well for catalyst etc (although probably on bloody Legendary level, as per)…

Thanks for that. 👍 I haven’t actually got the mission unlocked yet, but I do appreciate your helpful comments. -
N.B. The version of the mission I have been attempting tonight for week 2 of episode 3 appears to have been ramped up. Plenty more yellow bars, arc traps during some of the early jumping puzzles, more Cyclopes in the boss room and it feels like the boss and ads are hitting harder tonight than they were yesterday when I was doing the week 1 version. Not entirely enjoyable, and I have, once again, timed out. I’m going to suggest that having the exotic mission as an unskippable story element is a little bit naughty.

it will convince some people to not buy future content from bungie. they are catering to the try hards and are ignoring the casuals. the people saying this are right.

Hard to disagree. Maybe they’ll ramp the difficulty down as the season goes on, but right now having a long, not easily solo-able exotic mission as the first step in weekly content path is not exactly catering to the masses, as you say.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you manage to get it done. I don’t like the exotic mission being part of the story idea. I believe that everyone should be able to complete the story, regardless of their skill level. There’s certainly a place for challenging content, but the seasonal (episodic now ?) story isn’t it. -
ya even datto who complains that things are too easy agrees seasonal content should not have a high difficulty. it might not be the hardest mission but its difficulty level is way above seasonal content .
