It's 2024 and, I guess, people don't grasp the idea of what a Hunter, Warlock and Titan roles are?

Explain what those roles are. Thanks.

Hunter would be considered the scout. Warlocks the healers and Titans are the tanks. Basic rpg roles. Just generically speaking. I know that can be expanded on.
-
So, given that drawing aggro isn't a thing in this game, what role is the tank filling?

Edited by GallowsPole: 6/24/2024 7:41:26 PMDrawing aggro isn’t a thing? News to me. The Hunter threaded spectre was designed specifically for that reason. Titans can now heal along with its potent arsenal for going toe to toe with everything. Like I said, generically speaking those are their roles, but Bungie expanded their abilities to be more.

Drawing agro isn’t normally a role required at all within the content in this game. There’s three exceptions to this, that being Golgoroth, Nezerac and Rhulk (specifically Pantheon Rhulk). The first is a role any class can take, because all it requires is a sniper and some faster firing weapon for orbs. Nezerac is a similar situation, but besides in the situation of Pantheon this is a very minimal role that just requires a few dodges and good aim, again no real specific requirement for Titans. In fact, within my experience in Pantheon we actually had a Hunter holding Nezzy in place for damage. Then in the case of Rhulk’s shadow clone, the exact same situation holds, but with even less requirement for any engagement. It’s just grab the Shadow’s attention and then circle him around. The same Hunter who held Nezzy for my team ended up dragging the Shadow around. There’s no content where the defensive capabilities of Bubble outclasses simply clearing out whatever is damaging you. Even Banner shield on Witness has proved divisive, as it can hold fully shield the wielder. A Titan can rarely act as a wall and even then it’s often not worth the trade off for the loss of one person’s damage for a slightly stronger damage buff. Titans have a few VERY strong survivability builds, don’t get me wrong, able to put out fantastic damage in solo content. But that’s about the only area they excel in PvE content. I’d argue their strongest build is actually support with Void Titan using controlled demolitionist to heal your allies with Volatile detonations and using overshields, but not only does that not fit the Titan identity as a tank, it’s something Warlocks can do better at range with a variety of options.

This is a good answer! Pulling aggro in this particular game exists, it’s just not necessary as you stated. Due to the fact we tend to find the path of least resistance and obliterate everything before the baddies blink. King’s Fall was practically all about aggro. Bungie has changed so much around since D1 launched Players don’t want to team up. If you want the shinies, now you have to. In order to do that, all three classes now have some form of healing others. Anyways, as I said, the traditional roles, which still hold today in an rpg, are the Hunter scout. The Titan tank and the Warlock healer. Don’t forget, these classes started out in D1 where all were had were crazy artifacts and self res warlocks! J/k

D1 technically had Titans as support for the most part, playing more of the healer/buffer role than anything else. The Destiny classes have never fallen cleanly into those roles.

Edited by GallowsPole: 6/25/2024 9:39:05 AMYeah, that’s why I say generically speaking. The classes are traditional rpg roles that Bungie changed to fit the game. The Titan bubble and self res warlocks were necessary at the time to best Oryx for example. I mean, how many times did you see a warlock beat sisters? Power creep eventually made them obsolete for the most part. I could run the middle on a hunter without needing them. I tried to run the new kings fall and gave up over lfg not being able to decide player location for plates. 😂

Except they’ve never been adapted properly, that’s the point. You’re espousing a surface level opinion from the basic descriptions of the classes without understanding that Bungie have never treated it that way. They’ve admitted in the past that they don’t see Titans as tanks, but purely as the melee focused class. Bungie themselves have cornered Titans into such a small space that when they excel in it, they get nerfed and then strangled by how narrow their proficiency is.

Edited by GallowsPole: 6/25/2024 1:35:56 PMWhat would you classify a banner of war titan as? FYI, when Bungie said Titans weren't tanks, it was to move away from being called a traditional MMO. Lukie calls it an MMO. Now what?
-
Dude, just stop. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
-
I see. Instead of disputing my claims, you just ask more questions and then try to shut me down. This game must be the one you got your training wheels off to finally play a rpg my nappy wearing friend.
-
Your claims are nonsense, if you had any endgame experience, you would understand that. This game has no roles and never has.
-
You got me with that retort. Oh, the agony.
-
Hey, at least it was based in reality.
