I don’t like surges in the raid.

They’re restricting to loadouts, and team members who don’t play the game religiously feel left behind on weeks like this (arc-stasis) when they never wanted to grind for things like acreus catalyst or don’t have full collections of every damage type of every archetype ever to pull from. I’m at Witness DPS with Cloudstrike + catalyst and several god roll crux terminations to choose from, but others are suffering on damage not because they’re unskilled but because they just don’t have the meta guns to match this surge. It feels bad to have weeks like this where the raid is a significantly worse experience for half the team because of an arbitrary reason like this. Edit: Surges are gone next week.   • I actually like surges as what’s optimal dps changes. This is a looter shooter if people don’t have good stuff for each element that’s something to chase.

  • Upcoming Changes We have decided to remove surges from raids and dungeons in next week's update, as well as to adjust tuning so that you’ll perform as if you had them across the board. This means the damage bonus will now be applied to all subclass damage types, including Kinetic, by default. This change will make outgoing damage in dungeons higher and reduce the difference in raids compared to before The Final Shape. It does so while removing barriers to buildcrafting.   • For me the problem is minus power. The minus 5 power is the reason surges were put into raids and dungeons. They restrict us and then throw in the surges to make it feel like the dungeons before the change, but instead it just restricts players to those 2 damage types. Surges should have been a choice for the players to take advantage of, not a requirement to do even remotely close, though still less, to the damage we use to do.

        People really want to be handed things. Bungie and the playerbase is under the misconception that the game is a fps. While it’s true to an extent, this game is an MMO. It looks like bungie has realized this and made raids and the like more difficult. Lightfall poisoned you people because the baseline is an easy raid where you can play without a mic and breeze through it. Raids aren’t meant to be easy you need to get creative and use the right tools to complete the task that’s assigned. Stop acting like fricken babies.

        • I firmly believe Surges are a lie. I was using Thunderlord on the Witness with Arc Surge on, and people were out damaging me with Still Hunt.

          • this is funny how bungie jumps down spins around and makes things easier for raids but shaft players who don't like to raid. like dual destiny and heavy trace exotic. they just go silenI on those problems. and GM runners been putting up with surges forever. l call BS bungie.

            Then stop playing it's only way bungie will listen, let the top % see if they can keep the servers open without everyone else show bungie that catering to the top% has made the final shape lightfall 2.0 Don't get me wrong some decent changes have been made and welcome ones like the 12 man gm etc but any good change bungie has brought has been out shadowed by the amount of bad decisions like nerfs, -5 pl and the same difficulty increases that killed lightfall

          • Now that we know the values, I think this could’ve been solved in a different way. It’s getting removed completely next week. Surges are great at 1 thing - getting players to use something that isn’t just the meta all the time. I think this is a great thing, but they need to adequately support it. 1. Up the damage for everyone - If you’re matching surge, it should be marginally easier than what it was before TFS. The pervious system let you just barely break even if you matched surge. 2. Better UI for Kinetic Weapons. - Under arc surge when you pull out your ghost it should also tell you that kinetic weapons receive bonus damage if your super matches the surge element. 3. Better UI for explaining Incoming damage - Half of the issue was that the difference between how your powers affect incoming and outgoing damage. Because guess what - they’re different without them telling anyone. - Everyone just assumed it was always going to remain the same as their first normal run through. So a lot of people assumed that it was always going to be fairly hard (30% increased incoming damage is ridiculous on a NORMAL raid) - They did not mention that you can reduce your incoming damage up to +15 power. At max this would give you +3% reduced damage from where it was before TFS. [b]The vast majority of this was Poor Communication and Bad UI Design/Limitations[/b]

          • Honestly, surges are not needed, especially if the fireteam is on the lower end of skill (as is most often the case with LFG) I use Apex + Needle Storm Necrotic and consistently have high damage even if there is no Solar and Strand Surge. Of course, I will never out dps someone who is using the surge, but the fact that I can still pull high damage is good enough.

            • Aye, I can understand Bungie wanting to put a bit more challenge in Raids... but this isnt the way, it just doesnt feel good. That sentiment seems to be shared by most players [i]and[/i] streamers. Dont think I've seen that sort of consensus since the days of D2 Vanilla and CoO. I dont think this one even needs to sit. Scrap it and go back to the drawing board.

            • I like surges because they make me think of using weapons that I usually wouldn’t have considered using without them. But, with Div and Tractor, you don’t need to use the surges to do max damage. You also don’t need to do max damage to easily 1-2 phase any raid encounter.
