The pvp community (at least the vocal part) hate objective based game modes. Rift in every iteration got slammed with hatred because nobody played the objective. People don't like countdown or the tribute game mode for iron banner because again, nobody plays the objective.
Knowing bungie they'd make carrying the flag like holding a Heavy Object from the Witch Queen campaign, completely removing your ability to shoot and forcing you to walk super slow. Which wouldn't be received well (look at stasis).
Would ctf be fun? Sure, but I don't think it'll be received well at all nor do I have faith that the current bungie wouldn't mess it up.

It’s hard enough to get players to play the objective in Control.

If is was like carry Motes with the flag carrier just highlighted then I think that would be fun and that’s why I said about the tie feature being a capture point in the middle so that if even it was just kills for 10 mins at least it’s a fair way to get the win for which ever team.

It is unfortunate since I like most objective based PvP games where getting a high KD doesn't matter. Although I didn't care for Rift when it launched, it is better on smaller maps and 3v3 after they fixed the main bugs. But I never got to play the Tribute gamemode more than once because people complained hard enough that Bungie took it down before I could. I thought the moving banks was a bit much but enjoyed the chaos.
