Why does he have a Brooklyn accent?
For that matter, why does Petra have a British accent when she was born out in the Reef?
I'm sure some nerd that studies lore has the exact answer to these questions
English

Personally my head-canon is that the actual language isn’t English or any of the current spoken languages. The golden age was hundreds of years ago and most of humanity got wiped out, so it would make sense if there was a “common” language currently. Considering how much English itself has changed over several centuries it wouldn’t be that far-fetched. The accents make sense if you simply consider that it’s just the closest approximation of what it would be to us.

Yea can’t stand the Brooklyn accent it’s like I should be ordering pizza from him

Ayo, it's me cousin Immaru. I'm walkin' here. I mean I'm not I'm crouched in the elevator shaft, but hey, I'm walkin' here!

Because accents evoke emotions and people associate them with particular things. Petra serves the queen. Which country has the most known monarchy in the world again? Btw: that's not just a British accent, it's supposed to sound like RP.

Okay but Spider? Did he learn English from a London gangster? Where did he even - He binge watched Eastenders, didn't he?
-
I can't tell you that but in the end they will always have an accent of some sorts.
I can't tell you that but in the end they will always have an accent of some sorts.
And I'm glad. Nothing more boring than only hearing the one accent. I always loved that The Expanse has so many.
-
The Expanse tried to be "realistic" in the depiction of the Belt as a melting pot where languages and cultures just merged into one. And then we had the Martian Supermarine with her Kiwi twang and 99% of Earthers and Martians speaking impeccable English save for Chrissi who is heavily accented by nature and was depicting an Indian anyway.

Petra can have any accent she wants.
-
Because some accents are so awesome they have become a universal constant, like gravity. I fully expect that when our future alien Overlords land that they will demand in British, Scottish and Brooklyn accents that we serve them without question. It's just inevitable.

Truth

Oh, sorry mate. Perhaps we should put YOU into charge to create and write several new languages and accents that make sense for the universe and are usable by any human at any moment as a voice actor. It's not like that's something even scientists struggle with... ;)

You are defending laziness and lack of creativity
-
No. I am saying creativity can have its limits, especially under deadline pressure.

Please put them in charge of it, I trust some random off the forums infinitely more than Bungie
