The rest of the Red Legion that didn't join Caiatl are ultimately deserters, which is who we typically fight now. We could probably just call them the Legionless at this point despite their former colors.

Like how many Red Legion have been killed in the last how many years? They were not endless. Calus at least has clones and pyramid magic as an excuse to make up his numbers. The Red Legion presumably invaded Sol with a finite quantity of soldiers. If they're being reinforced or supplanted then where are their soldiers coming from? At some point their own numbers are coming from other legions, who wouldn't need to bother throwing on Red legions uniforms if they are not actually joining Caitl. The short answer is bungie can't be bothered to make a new skins set. I'm just pointing out that if the Red Legion are allies now, they have to be differentiated from deserters. At some point, Caitl will have actual Red Legion encounter humans or guardians. How would we distinguish these Red Legion are allies?

Red legion aren’t allies, you’re think of blue legion which is Caitl but they don’t refer to them as that in game .short answer dude is that this is a game and it takes more resources than you would think to back and re edit existing enemies in areas with new skins. I would love more unique faction skins within races like in Destiny 1 but eh we get we get

The Red Legion is the one that sacked the Tower and Caitl's Legion didn't even enter the solar system until several years later. When we did the Rites of proving the Red Legion were there to pledge themselves to Caitl. In the first mission of Witch Queen I called into question the Red Legion are there on Caitls orders. This would indicate they are part of her faction which is supposedly in alliance with humanity. Yes it's a game. Most likely 50%+ of the player base (who knows I haven't taken a poll) do not care beyond "I see I shoot, I loot". In terms of a narrative, it's conflicting. What makes a good story, a good world, is attention to the details. Stuff like this makes me wonder if Bungie even cares at this point. Yes a reskin would take time and resources. Writing a small back story would be more work than not doing that. But I would argue that making new cosmetics for exotics is more work, more pointless, and a fair amount of them even have lore tabs on them. They could do a reskin if they wanted. Agree to disagree, but I care more about the state of the world and story than about some gun that may or may not have killed a Guardian.
