Well, that’s the thing! Putting together a coherent and competent fictional universe AIN’T simple! Does that excuse all the myriad mistakes they’ve made??? NAH! They shoulda put the effort at the start and they couldn’t even do THAT! Now they know they ain’t gotta try anymore cuz they know the standards of the fans are at rock bottom!

Forgive the long response. But problem is Destiny is a near ten year old game whose story has been handled by too many different writers. I hazard to guess the current batch of writers are kinda facing the issue of being saddled to finishing a narrative they didn't start, and working off whatever notes have been left to them. If they were left anything at all. Thus there's bound to be discrepancy and that's not accounting for the budget they have to work with in regards to creating the means to tell the story. Animation, music, effects, cutscenes, all cost money which has to be rationed out accordingly. Then there's deadlines and milestones they have to worry about meeting and reaching, to keep players invested, as well as please corporate and/or investors, which puts even more pressure on development teams as a whole. Sadly, these days it feels like people on the corporate side of things seem to forget that writing is as much an art as it is a process. Both of which require time to produce high quality stories. To my knowledge Destiny's seasonal content is in production two or three seasons in advance before reaching live servers. These writers probably finish one project in time for the next to get started. Additional time is something few are willing to give when hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake. Even then game developers are still human beings, who need time off, sick days, holidays, and vacation time like everyone else. At the end of the day its important to remember that any video game or entertainment company is still a business at its core. Any gaming community can voice their opinions and offer feedback positive and negative. But the company who produces the game ultimately has the power to decide how to respond, if at all. That includes the authority to hire and fire people. Story writers were fired over the community's overwhelmingly negative response to Lightfall's story. Does any of that truly excuse poor storytelling? No. But you have to remember going back and changing things which have already been produced (cutscenes, voice lines, animations, etc...) is oftentimes more expensive than pushing forward with what exists. Idealy it should never get that bad to begin with, but people aren't perfect. Like I said at the beginning Destiny is nearly ten years old and has gone through many different writers in that time. Still, hopefully that sheds some light on things.
