The power fantasy is in no way shape or form destroyed. It is stronger than ever after the subclass 3.0 updates unless you just expect to wipe whole rooms with a couple hand cannon shots. If you actually want to use that space magic it is plentiful. They have always nerfed stuff and often to hard. Something always takes its place. Youll be ok without Starfire. As far as Bungies resources I have a feeling that is just a made up assumption by you but if you have any source to back that up I would be happy to look.
