I was actually using glaive because of how good the melee felt with synthoceps. What purpose is there to their risky playstyle if their damage is going to be complete garbage by itself?
It doesn't matter that it's infinite ammo...cause in endgame content, the enemies are gonna blast you to hell as soon as you decide to get it...which has been a fairly consistent problem for titans in the first place.
What's the point of having a melee class if they keep micromanaging how effective they are? What's the point of the glaive if every strong interaction with them gets bombarded into hell? This feels like sword 2.0 where they want people to use them but not to excel

Edited by Unbreakable Patches: 3/17/2023 8:34:39 PMI mean, it 100% does matter if the thing with infinite ammo can waltz around and melt the entirety of a whole activity no questions asked.

While yes that's important to consider...what content are you just able to bum rush a target with a glaive without getting melted other than content you already are consistently melting targets from a distance? I do think it's fair to reduce how effective it is, because triple damage on something that swings so fast is a problem (because of the 3rd hit animation cancel)...but 50% bonus damage is nothing on a weapon with already such a low base damage and limited survivability. There's a reason not many people like swords for content, because even IF they are powerful...there's only very limited ways to take advantage of how good they can be. And it's not like the ranged shot is worth anything either. It does jack -blam!- for damage and it's clunky. Glaives might be the worst designed weapons they've ever made because of how much they micromanage their MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT. They did the same nonsense with swords. Their tool for survivability is limited and their main damage isn't powerful enough to warrant the risk. Like seriously what's the point?

Literally all content that isn’t a GM lmao.

I was using vexcaliber with synthos and offensive bulwark in root of nightmares and even with constant health regen, sometimes there's just too much damage to heal. Not always would I go down, but it happened enough to make me swap off of it and just annihilate all the adds with sunshot or a joltshot primary. There's so many ways to easily clear rooms now with primaries and our heavies are so strong for dps now that even certain lmgs are being used...after years of being hot trash. Legit nobody uses glaives except for the 1 time an exotic allowed them to be stupid powerful and they decide to not carefully tune that cheese, but straight annihilate it. Like actually why would I bother using vexcaliber when I can just bonk enemies with throwing hammer and do nearly 30% more damage on something that constantly heals me? I even started using glaives because that felt fun and now I'm not touching them again cause they suck.

It’s not about other things also being able to kill. It’s about the fact that glaives could outdamage heavies for free, no questions asked. If people want a close quarters power house weapon, we’ve got an entire archetype of weapons that has gone completely ignored for a while now lmao. Swords exist. Rally for some buffs.
-
If they won't buff their brand new weapon type to get people to use a close ranged weapon, what makes you think anything we could say now would get swords any meaningful buffs? I'm beyond rallying for buffs to things that are abysmal because they are too good at tunnel visioning what a weapon should perform at. It took them years to make machine guns worth a damn again. Snipers are garbage because they think that they are too safe...while rockets and now machine guns obliterate everything for free with no worry about flinch. Warlocks literally stand in their best pve ult in the game and throw grenades that do more damage than anything else in the game...but they are forced to do it because all encounters just bombard you with damage. There's so many supers that just suck in pve because they don't want them to be really powerful. Even the titans brand new super meant to be good for damage...is not any better than other titan supers. Hell it SUCKS at add clear compared to sentinel, striker, behemoth and all of solar titan. They don't know what they are doing my friend.

Whatever you need to say to seethe about a basic melee being changed to no longer outclass heavy weapons.
-
Why are you bothering to respond to me if it's not to say anything meaningful?
-
You’re just another Titan that has no grasp on balance. There’s not really a good reason for glaives to have been utterly outclassing heavy weapons when they have literally no cost of use. Not really sure what the rant was about Berserker titans either because they’re all about doing extremely high damage lmao.
-
I literally stated that I understand why they nerfed it and what extra component makes it so lethal. I also went on to say why I think it SHOULD be lethal as a weapon class because of risk. Nowhere in there did I not give a reason to try and justify both sides of the coin. And I never said they should outclass heavies nor did I try to justify that they should. There's an extra level of risk to dealing damage with them then other special weapons and should understandably be a powerful weapon. Not super op damage...but they can't make them worth using EVEN WITH INFINITE AMMO, without something to keep their damage and risk balanced. I brought up swords for a reason, because there's little room for melee builds in the content that should matter if we melt or not. My mistake, the berserker portion was wrong, I was being anecdotal based off my experience in the legendary campaign.

There is very little content where you’re suddenly just made of paper. I’ve ran Legend content with no issue this season using Vexcalibur as an easy way to kill things for free, only switching off to top off restoration or something. Glaives are still going to obliterate basically any orange or red bar, and you have to remember that the melee has a very generous AoE too. The only thing they won’t be doing is laying down top of the line DPS on bosses lmao.
