Name: Abigail Violet Age: 14 Appearance: Blonde hair, tied into a braid with a bow tied to the end. It used to be a white bow, but it's got a few splotches of an age-old bloodstain. Dull brown eyes, a little tall, constantly looks like she's sad even when she's happy. Clothes: Abigail mostly wears fancy dresses, though she is terrible at keeping them clean and almost always has a stain of some sort. Proper little dress shoes, high running socks, maybe some dainty little gloves, too. Profession/Education: Abigail grew up as an aristocrat, and has received many personal tutors over the years. She has a particular penchant for science, and is very bad at any sort of writing. Life story: Abigail used to be the older of two sisters. Once upon a time, she and her younger sister would spend countless hours together, exploring make believe castles and dungeons--often sneaking away from their tutors to play together, much to the dismay of their parents. Two years ago, however, their home was attacked by a band of werewolves while the girls were playing. Abigail watches helplessly as her younger sister is killed before her eyes. Her parents chased the wolves off, but the girl hasn't been the same since. Abigail is a lot quieter these days. She never sneaks off to play anymore, and rarely contributes to conversations. When she does speak, her voice is frail, and hardly any louder than a whisper. She usually sits in the background, watching the world go by. A merciless, unfeeling world, that doesn't care about the girl who died, or the girl who lived.

 • Would you say she partakes in local church activities (if they were a normal thing everyone did)?

 • If her parents went to church she probably would, too.

 • Shucks
Well, it's seems after some years her mother has gotten sickly, doctors say it's a local flu, prolly from the fact everyone crowds into the small church. He prescribes a medicine that should help her get better. A few days later Abigail finds out her mother isn't taking the medicine.
What does she do?
thought the name was Abigail Williams for a second. Almost did a double take
• Despite fear welling up in her chest, Abigail's voice is still quiet, and frail, and she doesn't have the strength to question her mother. She does small things, like making sure to place the medicine next to her mother's bed, but doesn't say a word to her directly. Ever since her mum had gotten sick, Abigail has been spending even more time alone than usual, quietly staring out the window. When asked what's wrong, she doesn't reply, and sometimes people can hear her crying, but her sobs are even quieter than her voice. Internally, she is fraught with worry. She knows the world does not care. She knows it would take her mother without a second thought.

 •
Yeah but ngl, there's no guarantee I won't "reroll" for bad rolls, and at that point might as well just make scenarios bad from the get go. With this I can get other people to roll their fate and then the coin will be just in case the other person does some sneaking, so i flip a coin after and if I don't match their toss, then I'll make low numbers good and high numbers bad. Not fool proof but it's something.

darn I got heads

Alrighty, well, the mother starts taking the prescription. There have been reports that more people in the town are becoming sick, and the medicine supply is dwindling. Being pretty rich, (or wealthier than the rest in town. they have a manor if I remember correctly?) the Violets have barely enough to last them till the resupply next week, if they stretch their current supply thin. Any less and the medicine would be unable to compete with the illness.
Lets roll a d20 and a coin.

 •
Wait, how does this make any sense? Mummy’s the only one who’s sick, and she wasn’t taking any medicine. Why are we suddenly short? Also, this situation needs to be more involved with Abigail, I think. The situation is all revolving around her mother’s actions, so she doesn’t have much agency here. What she does just doesn’t matter much, y’know?
As her mother starts taking the medicine, Abigail perks up a bit—but only a bit. Her mother is still sick, and she can’t help but expect the worst. Being just a child, most of the news about the worsening conditions in town don’t reach her ears much. She notices the streets being a bit more barren as she watches from her window, but she doesn’t give much thought as to why. She stopped thinking about other people a long time ago.
20, Heads
• Sorry for the wait, had to let this one stew

Wait, how does this make any sense? Mummy’s the only one who’s sick, and she wasn’t taking any medicine. Why are we suddenly short?
Ah sorry bout that. So the town has had a bit of an unexpected sickness spike and they need more. The Violet's should have enough tho, Mummy's started taking it, and because of the initial hesitation they've got enough till the town gets more (a week). The only ones that really really need it would be the townsfolk cause the poor hygiene and close quarters living conditions of the 1700s have made that medicine equal to toilet paper during Covid. And the town doesn't make the toilet paper either. That stuff special. Usually there wouldn't be a problem but the fact she hesitated means she's a bit worse off and needs more than what was prescribed. So with what they have, and what's left after everyone else bought medicine, it can last (a week). Their location wasn't really specified so I just made it a manor by a small town some distance from any major city where more medicine would be stored or produced. This would back the initial werewolf attack that got Abby’s sister two years prior. Prooooobably shoulda written that better. yeah... — Now with Abigail. (I think I deleted the part about these being NPC side characters, whoops.) It’s not so much about her not having involvement, I mean there was that bit with the medicine, but right now I’m just setting up. Again, this is kind of experimental. We'll see how it goes. What I’m trying out here is that her fate lies in your rolls and my ... improvised interpretations of those rolls. (I won't ignore a good roll though.) Plus. She is a rich 14 y/o with a past that resulted in higher safety measures. Can’t really do much, and unless you roll poorly, I can't really sicc a werewolf on her manor. Right now, Abigail is just, fortunate enough to have a mundane life. It’s like a text-based sim game. In hindsight, I should've put some world building in that setting section... I think I downplayed the monsters too much. Let us now establish that most armed forces are made to protect cities from the beasts and vampires etc. plus the occasional war between petty nations, not a typical Europe and really, Europe was more of a stylistic setting than geographical. But yeah, sorry about not clarifying that earlier. These are good points. If I ever make another one I’ll make revisions. … So anyways, I'm going to sicc a werewolf on her manor.

(I got tails, but don't worry, I’m not actually going to make the scenario that simple)

The resupply wagon was intercepted and the couriers were absolutely mutilated on their way to the town by a pack of werewolves. Until they are taken care of, the only road available to them will be blocked and travel will be impossible for some time. (At least 15 business days) Mummy’s condition has gotten much worse as days go by and the medicine is no longer able to counteract the poison. Abigail has been unable to see her for two weeks and the staff prevent her from entering the room. Abigail’s father has also started coughing violently every now and then, though he can still function. One day, Abigail walks past her mothers door and sees it's slightly open. Inside is dark, the curtains probably drawn, and there's not a single staff member in sight. Father is too busy and sick to stop her from entering. Just barely, she sees the glint of a medicine vial in the middle of the room. Perhaps mother will need assistance?
What will Abigail do?
Okay setup's done I think. Btw, you have a map of manor or is it cool if I make it up?.
•
The part that didn't really make sense is they get a weekly resupply anyway, don't they? Meaning they'd receive the week's worth of medicine in advance. So, if mummy hesitated to take it, they should have more than a week's worth already built up. I'm not sure if hesitating to take your medicine means you have to take more, though, so.. Shrug? In any case, no, you put in the part about them being NPC side characters, but when creating a situation for a character, you should still focus it around their involvement. It doesn't need to be something as big as a werewolf attack, but just something about them. Abigail's mum getting sick and not taking the medicine, that was good.. Sort of, but I'll get to that in a minute. However, the shipment being delayed was not. Like, that's something entirely unrelated to Abby, and there's nothing she can really do to affect that situation. A better way to go with that would be to do something like; The shipment was delayed, and as a result of this the family goes into town to pick some up personally, and while there they run into.. Yada yada, put her in a situation that she has some agency over. Also, as a side note, you shouldn't rely entirely on rolls. Ideally you should be using a combination of rolls, and our actions to determine the outcome. So, for instance, whether mummy decided to take the medicine or not should've been 100% up to my actions (or at least a roll modifier, like a +X or -Y), while whether or not the shipment is delayed is fine being up to chance. That way, it feels like we're actually affecting the situation at hand, and not just playing a game of dice. Also, this is all supposed to be helpful advice, not complaining. Sorry if it sounds like complaining. :p
Abigail mutters out "mom" in a quiet whisper. Used to nobody hearing her, she'd make her way in as long as her mum didn't tell her to go away. She inspects the medicine bottle, and sees if there's any actual medicine inside, and if so, she walks it over to her mum's bed, quietly muttering that she found more medicine. In the event that A. Her mother asks her to leave, or B. The medicine vial is empty, she won't say another word, and will instead quietly walk away.
Which would you prefer? I can make a map if you'd like, but if you'd rather make it up you can feel free.
