Did you seriously ask that question? Lmao every single guardian that died "died in action". Except those in the avarice dungeon and then there's the whole dregden yor story. Cayde wasn't special, he wasn't funny and I'm glad I don't have to hear his annoying dialog except in a couple of strikes that should have been vaulted.
