Been a while so I deleted a character and started fresh and it's a super refreshing and fun way to clear my mind and I still believe d1 is much better than d2 as of this current date 2/16/23 but anything further could change my mind but the past 9 years d1 is better.

1 ReplyYou still play d1? And on what platform are you playing?
-
2 RepliesD1 and D2 at this point are incomparable. D1 is a compete game, and is meant to feel as such, thus, it is much more fufilling to play, as you feel that any and all progress you make is actually worth it. Furthermore, its incredibly unique in its art direction, and feels fresh, even 9 years later. I would say that if they were to increase framerate and other such things, that it would look better than D2. Finally, it does contain some of the best content on the planet, being Master mode raids. I think the only raid I have completed normaly was vault of Glass.

1 ReplyI wish i could delete parts of my memory and replay this as it was my first time.

D1 has a much more rewarding progression system, plus all the content is there to play when you get ready to , even bounties don't expire I also think D1 has a much better story , from embarking on the quest to kill the black heart, to stopping the Devil Splicers from weaponizing SIVA to use against the City, and you can replay it all over if you want Not to mention Heroic Strikes with fun and challenging modifiers , and strike exclusive loot that makes running them more rewarding, like the devouring maw Warlock Helmet, or the Grasp Of Malok that people double killed Omnigul for And Crucible is more fun and varied, with a ton of different maps to keep everything fresh Making a new character in D1 is like reliving a great adventure, but making a new D2 character is like volunteering to get hit over the head with a giant mallet again -
6 RepliesThe only things D2 does better are the QoL mechanical gameplay changes like FOV sliders, ledge grab, loadouts, legendary perks, framerate, etc, and the fact that there is technically far more to do (mostly owing to the fact that D2 has been updated far more than D1). However, D1 excels in creating a more mysterious atmosphere alongside the gameplay. The presented story was always better. We had no idea who the hell we truly were and we were just fighting enemies who wanted to destroy the Traveler. We were this newcomer who rose to the occasion and gained the respect of our peers and the Last City. Now we're basically John McClane Yippee Ki Yaying everything in our path. New threats last 3 months at best (seasons). They no longer feel like threats, just minor inconveniences interrupting our naptime. What activities that are in the D1 had a place, they were well thought out, they weren't over reliant on mechanics, AND to top it all off, the endgame PvE wasn't so pathetically reliant on RNG as it is now. Its a shame Trials never had any static loot like Recluse or Mountaintop. The only truly iconic weapon to have ever came out of Trials still resides only in D1: Doctrine. That thing was legendary and you didn't even need a good roll to mow down opponents. Raids were perfect difficulty so that even the most inexperienced raiders could enjoy at least one clear. If you found a decent group of folks, the raid exotics were assuredly yours for putting in a little effort with quests. Helping others meant something. Hero moments were the best part. Down two people on the final Oryx phase? We might have to restart but maybe we have enough DPS and can get this rando their first clear. Now if you're down even just one person, you often don't have enough people to complete the mechanic and you just insta-wipe. If you wanted to take it a step further, you had the Hard mode raids that gave you palette swapped gear, but it meant you stood above the rest with your war trophies. Everyone just makes it seem like they now run raids to laugh at their unlucky friends or try their luck on the 50th run hoping to get the raid exotic that's been twice nerfed already which sounds kinda shitty. Court of Oryx and Splicer Den were 10x better than any Lost Sector could hope to be. While we're on the topic, Lost Sectors were always a waste. They had no influence at launch, offered nothing of substance, and now have been relegated to time gated exotic farming. I could farm exotics much easier in D1 thanks to 3oC. To top it all off, I could farm whatever else activity I wanted to get its loot too! Two birds, one stone. If I could afford some Glass Needles, I could even reroll the stats no farming needed. That goes without saying that most exotics in D2 don't even feel like they should be exotic at this point. Its a shame D1 never got to see the eventual QoL changes I mentioned above. Without the increasingly ridiculous narrative decisions and annoying mechanics like the Champion system, D1 would have been the perfect looter shooter. Maybe one day the modding community will truly be able to get a hold of it.

1 ReplyI played not too long ago. There are features in d2 that I wished was in d1. Like ledge grabbing, warlock rift, titan barricade, mods system (a better one) and a few others things. And a lot of what’s in d1 I wished was in d2. Like the tower, vendors, campaigns, strikes, pvp maps, most if not all of the loot (my goodness the loot), the og guardians jumps/supers, the slick armor art styles, exotics, ships, srl, and omg the shaders…etc.

2 RepliesActually never played D1 and am about to start the first mission on the Dreadnaught and looking forward to Rise of Iron afterwards.
-
2 RepliesWhy are people posting toxicity? All I said is I like a game more than the sequel damn 💀
-
1 ReplyWhen Activision left they should've reworked D1 and added Europa to it and continued on the path they are on now and left D2 as a Vex simulation we were stuck in.

D1 + 60FPS + mantling >D2

Nearly everything about D1 oozes dev passion, dev skill, dev talent, dev crafting, devs making something they are proud of. Nearly everything about D2 oozes greed, laziness, disappointment, underwhelming garbage. D1 came from Bungie. D2 comes from Bungo....a Budget underwhelming nasty greedy organisation.
-
Might have to give that a try sure sounds more fun than what I see offered this month in D2.
-
12 RepliesThe OP is 100% correct. D1 was only a 3-year game vs D2 which is still struggling 6 years later that the business has to do a second overhaul. When it comes to a game structure How a loot system was designed Incentive Consistency Moving a game forward Improving the player experience Making improvements for a game D1 Bungie the actual developer did better work than this Business has done in 6 years with D2.

I wish more people would do this instead of demanding old -blam!- be brought into D2.

6 RepliesI like the stuff. If we could port over everything (Venus and Mars, all the crucible maps, Dreadnaught and Plaguelands, all the strikes, PoE…) that would be great. D1 was not better than D2. D2 had a rocky start, year 1 was a mess. But I’d consider anything after Forsaken better than the vast majority of D1. Game plays much more fast paced and significantly more fluid, D2’s current loot system is miles beyond D1’s even at its peak, and has a mixture of complexity and simplicity that makes a lot of it easy to understand now. D1 also went through immense periods with no content changes. I do believe a lot of people have rose-colored glasses for D1, especially the Rise of Iron/Age of Triumph days. But it’s an opinion. Playing the old game through is fun every once in a while

D1 had Activision still. Of course it was better. If we had access to Destiny 2's build from late 2019, right before shadowkeep, that game would be the best destiny version. But yea you know the DCV and sunsetting and all that trash ruined D2.
-
Or it's just an easy way to get a bunch of bemoaning losers to upvote you by posting about D1...
-
would like to play but disc version on ps5 is not playable - maybe u need the digital version, or have to adjust something - feels like 10 fps for me 😩
-
2 RepliesEarly Destiny reveals..."See those mountains over there? You can go there if you want to." Destiny reality...take 3 steps outside of their tiny play space and you die.
-
My only problem is the 30fps Since I went current gen, playing D1 gives me a headache after 30-40 minutes. It's so janky 😣

3 RepliesThe only thing I miss in D1 was lance nova bomb and the obsidian mind exotic that actually granted a ton of super energy on nova kills. It was way better than the garbage we have now that only grants a total of 20% after a 6 man kill. Bad juju also granted a ridiculous amount of super energy per kill compared to the trash we have now. You haven’t lived until you have used 7 nova bombs in one game. Primary weapons were also more lethal so specials weren’t as meta as they currently are

15 RepliesI'm convinced that anyone who says d1 is better than d2 is either blinded by nostalgia or just trying to be different. The only things d1 has over D2 is age of triumph, PoE and strikes, and it's not even the strikes themselves it's the strike specific loot. D2 is faster and just plays better in general than D1, which is to be expected in a sequel but still. Also fov slider I don't care what your preference is, to say d1 is better than D2 is an outright lie
-
I liked the original iteration of Destiny, the one where exotics were truly better. Where the LL progression actually meant something. Where running the core Nightfall, heroic strikes for strange coins, and raid was all you really needed to do to keep up with your best odds of getting an exotic. First day or two was running the necessities, everything after that was what I wanted to. If I wanted to. Having more to do isn't always a good thing, especially when the more to do isn't rewarding. But I also can't ignore the QoL changes. Take the QoL updates (not even the content, just QoL features) and add them to D1 and I would strongly stand by D1 as the better game.

Everyone saying the game is worse because of the non fluid movements and graphics prefer vanguard over mw2 (2011)
-
Yeah 30 fps, 70 fov and not being able to mantle sounds like a dream
