My son has a theory on the collision/fall damage changes

During the testing of the Strand grapple swinging, developers were dying all over the place from collisions and falling death. It was then determined that they either change the way the grapple works, changing the vision of it, or finally dealing with collision and fall damage. But will they admit it? 🤔 Thoughts?

  • Very very likely

  • I didn’t watch the event, so I’m unsure of specifics, however that seems very plausible based on the info here. Especially with the history they had of collision issues back during D1. No go kill zones could also be a factor, but that’s probably more of a stretch.

    • It could be that, but it might also be due to all the eager edge griefing.

        • This might be why the warlock strand class is no longer called ‘architect’. They nerfed those -blam!- that have been killing my since Y1D1 VoG’s ‘tiny pointy rock’!

        • Spidey man never dies from a fall or collision. He got bit by a nukie spidey. So he got spidey nuke strength. Never dies from a fall or collision. Gotta sell that thing called suspension of disbelief. So yeah, your son may be right.

          • The collision damage change is just one of a few things that Bungie copied from Halo Infinite.

            • That is a reasonable theory which I agree with and no they will not admit it. I can picture the dev team giving strand grappling a go and hearing the choruses of "Guardian Down" ringing around the office followed by "Ah, right hmmm, maybe collision needs to be looked at after all". Even in the recent TWAB that was showcasing the armour changes and mod possibilities there was a statement along the lines that guardians will probably come up with combinations we haven't thought of. On reading that I thought to myself that is a backhand way of saying that they don't think about interactions beyond much of a basic level. It's like they toss a big bucket of LEGO (Other brands of construction toy are available) out into the wild and see what gets built. That would be fine if only when something truly epic (Read , fun) is constructed they didn't jump on it and nerf it into the ground.

That would be a very Bungie thing to do. & nah they would never admit it the last time we got honesty about failure was when they throttled exp or when the kettle was calling the pot black with work place toxicity. That had to be the turning point though for the Bungie employees when you think about it. They dog pile on Blizzard for their misconduct when they were equally guilty, that would piss me off to.

                • Its a welcome change for sure. Tonight, I watched my warlock friend break their ankles like 4 times. Seemingly, on nothing. Falls from heights that should not have killed them.

                • I think we all know Bungo don’t play test. They’re just adding a bunch of things to a list of “To be added during further seasons” for some good PR atm and then will be used for marketing to sell those seasons. Typical Bungo manipulation.

That was my first thought. With this (weird) decision to go all Spiderpig, there’s gonna be a LOT more collisions and falls. They didn’t have much choice but to nix that sort of damage. They don’t have to admit it; there’s really no other pressing reason to make the change.

                • Of course, it just makes sense. Strand is all about momentum and the their shitty mechanics that we’ve been dealing with since 2014 told them: NO U!

                • Good theory. I’m kind of not sure about the testing aspect as they usually leave that to us.

                  • If it involves them doing work, because "Work is Hard", well it will be glossed over as "part of the game".

                  • Smart thinking. But whatever the rationale behind is/was I will take it happily. Architecture is my worst enemy in this game. So embarrassing.
