Really good shading I usually overdo crosshatching and have to give up on including light when I draw.
Out of curiosity, when I draw curves(I guess lines too) I generally make quarter of an inch overlapping pencil stokes until I make the shape I was wanting. Did you do something similar or are you able to draw what you had imagined without lifting your pencil?

I sketch in very light sporadic strokes, typically they’re very broad ideas as I go for general shapes before laying down the hard features. The hair and the lined shading are quick movements, but you can tell from where my lines thicken that I spent a chunk of time getting the features into position more carefully. Nothings perfect on the first try, it’s a lot of mentally measuring facial features, and hunting and pecking until I get it right. Definitely some lifting of the pencil happening.
