And sadly it's not to assist with the bonfire this year...
Now for some idea on what kind of player I am, I'm -not- one of the D1 vets. I'm not even a Y2 vet. I joined in Arrivals due to the F2P intro, and cleaned up on the story content before it got wiped. I'm aggressively average in PvP at best, and I started avoiding GMs + Master content due to it not being worth my efforts thanks to being on my 3rd Elden Ring character. I went too hard in Season of the Lost and burned myself out trying too much.
I'm not too ingrained in D2.
Now, Solstice to me, is a fun little idea for an event. Fit out the tower, get some themed music playing, launch the EAZ again and mess around shooting things. Do some bounties, get some bright dust, maybe check out eververse. I've never spent anything on EV except for the DING finisher, and even then I was gifted money to do so by a friend. It's a nice mid-season break for something brighter.
The event card is agreeably not worth it, so I'm not buying it. The only cosmetic I'd want is the Iris Gossamer shader, which IS in the card but you know that it's probably just going to be re-introduced as a bright dust option next year so whatever, there's still Dawning Tranquility that's a fine substitute.
Would a new area be nice? Of course it would! Some place new to explore is always fantastic, but I feel like asking for a new Solstice map is like asking Dawning to stop being about cookies. EAZ has been iterated on again, the boosters and new platforms are a welcome addition on top of the previously added jump pads for amazing ease of access to wherever the next enemy spawned.
Yes, enemies disappearing when Taken come in is annoying but it's also "whatever". This isn't about speedrunning the most balls you can slam into the firepit, there's more than enough time to get 20 dunks. There's beyond more than enough time to complete the full event on all 3 characters.
We've been given 21 days to play Solstice, please just remember to breathe. It doesn't have to be done in the first day, and I feel like that's where a lot of anger can come from. The self-induced stress of trying to do absolutely everything in 24 hours or less.
Solstice is a free, 3-week event with microtransactions for some pretty meh cosmetics. Those who aren't interested in it can skip it and lose nothing, we don't -need- every cosmetic in the game. A 120 Stasis Handcannon is an addition that fills in a gap for the Kinetic slot.
The armour re-rolling with high-stat is RNG-based, sure, but this is an RNG game and honestly? After Resilience got mega buffed to cap at 40% reduction plus the change to Intellect, I need some new High-stat armour that fits the new changes since all my high-stat armour I grinded for in Beyond Light (Lower Res, Higher Int) needs to be updated now.
So to reiterate, I get that Solstice is nothing mind-blowing. But please remember to breathe because the levels of salt in this forum can't be good for your blood pressure. Put D2 at arms length for the remainder of the expansion, downgrade it to your side-game for a bit until the next story thing happens, or perhaps just zone out in the crucible while the others hop around the EAZ. This isn't worth your energy.

This event is still better than the events in other games. I just don’t like the ridiculous grind to guild the event seal (fully kindle all armor on every character), I’m just going to get the normal seal and call it good.

1 ReplyI definitely appreciate and respect your perspective, I'm glad that you have been enjoying D2 for what you've done. Perhaps I can clarify why alot of people are upset, as many people do get way too salty, and then just rant instead of providing feedback. The long and short of it is that Bonfire Bash on it's own is unfortunately a bit meh. Thus solstice is now relying on rewards to make players engage with it. This leaves the following: - You want the cosmetics from the upgraded pass - You want the Seal/Title - You want to obtain targeted high stat armor Now from those points, there are the following issues: - The only cosmetics that you have to do the challenges for are the upgraded event pass ones - High stat targeting is rather easy already with Umbrals and those aren't time-limited like solstice rerolls. I know that you pointed out that there is time to finish the event on all 3 characters, but the incentive to even do so is quite low. I believe most of the frustration is that Bungie is failing to respect the players' time, not delivering an activity that is engaging on its own merit, and the rewards aren't worth the squeeze. I completely agree that if someone is getting actually upset then it's a problem, but Bungie needs to get some feedback here or the chance of future events being better gets slimmer. I try to make my feedback constructive, but I also am not going to sugarcoat things

2 RepliesNot everyone is raving. The glow sets aren't great, take Shaders badly. They have some TERRIBLE features - ridiculous Warlock booties, the ridiculous Titan bird-helmet, the one shoulder pad Hunter. Event card is a new low when you have a two track system: F2P and Deluxe/DLC/Seasonal customers. The armour is theoretically good to tailor stats. So far, both upgraded pieces have done nothing other than LOWER my stats, so that's really not great design - at minimum it should be at least 0/+1 to a cap, never actually degrading. The triple currency is typically and unnecessarily convoluted nor clear as to stocks. In simple terms, the 120 is neither good in PvE nor PvP. Low mag, -blam!- reload feels terrible in PvE - yes, you can make it work...if slow PvE HCs are your bag. PvP - there's better perk 120s, leaving you with its positive AE and perhaps Harmony. Just not chaseable. The activity is dumbed down and lacks any sort of skill acquisition, for example getting to know the chest locations. It's not atrocious but it's just not good.

3 RepliesI think part of the point is this is not the first bad event. It's not even the 5th time. Most events are lackluster and half baked. We're just imploring them to do better.

1 ReplyAs someone who has played since D1 year 1 I’ve enjoyed the daylights out of Destiny emcee in its roughest patches and driest content points. It has been my go too game even when all my friends gave up but I’m getting to the point where things like this solstice are just another nail in the coffin. Now my free time is nowhere near what it used to be and grinding to get what I want in the little time I have is frustrating due too RNG but trying to accomplish this much in such a short amount of time for me is crazy. Yea I know blah, blah you’re just a casual but this level of rinse and repeat is a slog that makes me feel like I’m beating my head against a wall and sometimes that feels like it would be more fun. Now I don’t know if it’s the game or just my personal complaints but I don’t feel the same excitement to play I used too. I always used to look forward to the new events and to learn what would be available and to chase it but I’m over the EAZ and it’s repetition, I’m disappointed with the single drop and the lack of loot when it pops after you went to all that trouble and I just don’t think I have the time too invest in getting what is needed too advance.

Edited by NerdFame: 7/21/2022 1:00:29 AMHonestly well stated OP. My personal issues with the event is that the grind seems to have increased significantly for getting the armors done. Understanding its three weeks long in previous years I'd devote one week per character to work on everything but now I'm not sure I can do that same pacing and get more than one set done. Gonna still try and see if I can somewhat or maybe just forgo it and pick only one I want

The events in this game are most likely only there to sell cosmetics. I doubt a developer goes through all the work of creating the stuff to just hand it all out for free. Kind of like actual holidays. Sure, you can celebrate Christmas for free, but the real meaning of Christmas is to give companies a bump in revenue.
