Anyone really defending the pinnacle levelling system is actually braindead. It is a -blam!- system that is more of a pain in the -blam!- to play around or with than it is fun as a progression system, not only does it still suffer from complete RNG on whether you'll level up or not which is worse when you get to almost max and have a 1/8 chance of getting the item you need.
You also have the problems of if I finally reach 1560 power and want to do say a GM and want to level a particular weapon thats at 1550 to 1560 because it does way more damage I have to go do powerfuls or pinnacles and hope it drops in that slot just to have it be more viable in endgame content, this is really boring and doesn't engage the player in a meaningful way other than replaying old content just to level up a single item so they can go play the thing they want to play.
They honestly should do away with the pinnacle levelling system entirely or have it be a once a year thing to level gear and just have artifact power grind with seasons.

What is wrong with it? I could casually do 1 raid a week and hit 1560 within 4 weeks. System is fine with me. The only no lifers are those who want to get to 400+ season rank. Brain dead is running a kill circle in traditional RPGs. Loop around and farming enemies, loot caves? Those are true braindead activities.

I have to repeat that same tedious chore of doing pinnacles on other characters which sure is a bit quicker than the first but still relatively annoying but also have to do that on all characters every season. That and the RNG nature of it can be really frustrating and this is even more added on to the fact of the main issue with the system, which would be that if I have an item at 1550 and I am at 1560 and I want to use it in Master level content or GMs at an acceptable damage output I have to go do a powerful or pinnacle reward and pray to RNGesus that it drops in that slot or I have to go do another powerful/pinnacle drop till I get the slot I need a powerful drop in just to level up an item so I can go use it at an acceptable level in endgame content. That and if you are missing 1/8 slots for max level you have to keep doing pinnacles till Bungie is kind enough to grant you the exact drop you need to hit max level. It's just an obtuse system that should just be removed from the game.
