A wizard is not later nor early! He arrives exactly when he can make time for.
From out of the chaotic crowd emerges Warlock Holmes. The wizard is dressed in his typical dark robes and purple cloak but now he wears a wide brimmed dark blue wizards hat. Also, around his neck is a large amulet which shows a symbol of a face. He immediately observes before acting to get a grasp of what is occurring.
Chain 3
The combined attacks from others breaks her focus and you maintain your grip as you leap through the portal! As you land within the Nowhere, the portal closes behind you! You see a familiar landscape to the city, but in ruins, overgrown with strange trees, vines, and bioluminescent moss and flower beds. The sea is covered in sheets of ice that bob with the waves and a violet crescent moon smiles down from a starry night sky. You are also surrounded by dozens of Nightmares, with a larger one sitting in the center, smiling at you...
-
“Well is place is quite fascinating isn’t it?” I will casually comment to the nightmares while looking around. I shall grip the sword and hold it at the ready just in case. “I don’t suppose this sword commands you like it did for the others outside of the portal. Of course it wouldn’t, that would make things to easy. But alas, it is worth trying isn’t it? Halt, don’t approach please.”
-
You hear a raspy whisper in your mind. "Give us the sword and you may leave"
-
“What if I don’t want to leave? After all I am in a unknown and unexplored plane of existence. It would be unprofessional not to study it and it’s inhabitants. Additionally, you could be working for a murderer and I cannot have that. Why should I just leave?” As he stalls the creatures, I shall look around my immediate area for anything that can be used to my advantage. Also, As it seeks to be a weird reflection of our world, is the boat still there?
-
Only the sunken remnants of ships remain. The only other noticable difference in the terrain is a tunnel of arched roots with many bright flowers within that the Nightmares seem to be avoiding. Everywhere else the beasts appear, stalking and watching. The large one hisses and the whisper returns, "Words are tricksy, leave the sword, we spare you, we destroy it, we free ourselves from the Abyss!
-
I will slowly start creeping towards the tunnel. Hoping they may wish to avoid it. But then perhaps whatever lurks within scares the creatures so I shall proceed with caution. “The abyss? Is that where we are? One of its many layers. Or perhaps you could just be referring to it as a term and not a plane. Either way you wish to free yourself from the abyss and that can be even more dangerous! After all I have no clue what manner of beast you are, you may wish to harm my own world and I cannot allow that.”

Edited by Unseelie Nil: 4/3/2021 8:59:54 PMThe Nightmare screams and rushes you, but stops and shields itself with its front arms as the eye of the sword glows brighter and stares at it. The others answer the call with their own screams and ready themselves, but make no attempts to attack.
-
I am going to look into the tunnel, using the light of the sword to see, before looking back at the nightmares. “What is in there that scares you so? Ironic isn’t it. You are called nightmares yet even you know fear.”
-
The roots of trees twist around each other into a long cylinder full of flowers and moss that glow in all the colors of the rainbow, overpowering the dim red of the eye. There is no response from the Nightmares aside from the growls and hisses as they corner you!
-
Edited by Warlock Holmes: 4/3/2021 9:30:41 PMSince I am cornered, I will slowly begin backing up towards and into the tunnel. Observing if the creatures will follow or not.
-
As you back into the tunnel, gravity shifts and you begin to fall! The roots close arou d the entrance and the flowers glow brighter, blinding you, and suddenly you land in a clearing of soft moss within a wild forest.
And if you don't mind I have a few ideas for some things in the future, but for now I need a bit of time to work it out!
-
Edited by Warlock Holmes: 4/3/2021 11:39:13 PM
Interesting. And cool! Well, if you ever need Warlock Holmes (the character) is always free. After all he has nowhere to be. That was fun.

Chain 2
"It's the only way to stop that thing from returning." As you question Melinoe, Cobalt leaps into the portal!
-
“Where you going? Of course, see a ominous portal and the first thing you do is jump in! Ok sorry about that, I got distracted. Anyways, why? Have you even stopped to find another way that doesn’t include loss of life? Also what’s in that portal?”
-
"She made the first deal and so it is bound to her blood. Unless another was struck, it cannot return without her and all who share her blood. So that is why we must die." "As for the portal?" Melinoe smirks, "Nowhere."
-
“I see. But still, perhaps there is a way to prevent the return without killing them all. It would be a shame to do such. What do you mean by all those who share blood? Related only or all of her vampire spawn? Finally, where in Nowhere does it lead. A certain location or nowhere in particular?”
-
Melinoe considers your words a moment, "I hadn't thought of the vampires. Though I'm sure no one would mind a few less leeches in the world." Geo enters the portal at the same time a Nightmare leaps through!
-
“Fair point. But what of the former vampire spawns of one of her daughters, I believe, who is no longer a vampire? Asking for a friend of course.” Holmes looks around to see everyone leaving him behind and heading into the portal. He then looks to see if he can spot Nil. “You know I quite wish to investigate this portal but it seems highly irresponsible to just leave you here where you can escape. Without my magic I doubt whatever other current bonds are holding you will be to much of a hindrance. Hmm. What to do with you.” Holmes contemplates. On one hand he considers leaving her on the docs but on the other a guide to the realm could be helpful. Even if such guide is not the most trustworthy.
-
*Blaze, Pure Vessel, and Watson are still on this side of the portal* The Nightmare is rushing towards you and Melinoe! Nil and Scylla are boarding the Winter's Breath.
-
Edited by Warlock Holmes: 4/3/2021 4:57:55 PM“Hey Watson! I’m bringing the party.” I am going to wait for the nightmare to get closer then, using my free hand (really should have made that illusion just a rope and not one I am carrying), I will lash out at it with a magical lure of lighting. Basically the lightning lure spell. As it allows me to pull the creature 10 feet, on a failed strength save, I will actually try to pull it pass me and towards Watson. Also 10 Lightning damage on a fail!
Also, if you don’t want to worry about telling Watson everything I do, I can tell him in real life.
-
For the talking bits sure! But I can handle the combat bits
Your spell succeeds and the beast is yoinked! It swipes at you twice with a 13 for 8 and a ln 18 for 6 slashing
-
Due to the magical armor I casted upon myself the first attack misses. The second one definitely hits though, cutting its claws across me. I shall move to the side so I can angle myself to not hit Watson. Then I shall cast a lighting bolt upon the nightmare! Dexterity save or 27 damage!
-
Its form seems to be dissipating into large plumes of shadowy smoke as it looks around the battlefield frantically. Then it turns again to Melinoe and leaps!
-
I don’t really want to use spell slots as it seems to be dying, well I assume, so I shall use lightning lure again to pull it away from its target. Save or 12 lightning damage!
-
Watson cut the beast down, but you hear Geo shouting to close the portal as she stumbles back through, landing on Cobalt who seems to be stunned
