Makes sense. Luke Smith is the game director of destiny 2 vanilla. Also know as a the worse version of destiny 2 ever. Then he release a worse expansion that is universally hated and he literally almost single handed destroyed the franchise with his “vision”. Then he gets benched. Then Christopher Barrett who has already cleaned up Luke’s messes in D1 takes over and is the game director of forsaken. THE BEST EXPANSION EVER. We get pinnacle weapons, a S tier raid. Random rolls and everything the community needed to come back after Luke smith shyt all over game. Luke Smith somehow is given back control of the game(WHY????🤦‍♂️)he nerfs everything. Removes pinnacles. Sunsets 3/4 of game. Does not put enough content in game to replace all that was taken from players. Now he wants to sunset supers. Yes he hates forsaken because it everything he is not capable of. Making a good expansion or even maintaining destiny at a level that the community is happy.

  • Vanilla D2 was great. Plenty of content with an okay story. The only reason people complain is that the token system made it too easy to burn through content. Ridiculous to say that vanilla was the worst time in this game when it was followed by Osiris, and the two years of annual passes after Forsaken. All of those DLCs have been effectively scams.

  • I agree, and I may need to add- unironically. D2 Y1 was really fun for me, though there are a few things I disliked. PvP was not the oversaturated mess it has been since Forsaken, and PvE was actually a challenge without needing to cram every overused mechanic into every area

  • Objectively wrong? I mean it reviewed significantly better than the first game. It was significantly better than what the game has been for the past two years. There was actually stuff to do.

  • Well...stats are there...d2 y1 was bad and thats why they spent all their effort during warmind and forsaken to remove and erase all the mistakes done in d2 y1. At a point the game felt like 2 différent games from y1 to y2. Not to mention how the game was directed towards eververse. #removeeververse anybody ? Remember ?

  • The biggest thing that sucks about this is that Chris Barrett did so well with Forsaken that Bungie gave him a promotion and he is heading up their new 'Matter' IP. He basically did 'too good' and got re-assigned to the new game... Luke has good ideas and a decent vision for the game, the problem is the actual direction and solutions for reaching those goals: - Sunsetting was needed in a way, but the way it was executed is all wrong. - The 'evolving world' is a great idea, but doing it with all the FOMO was really bad. - Reworking supers and their identities sounds great, but removing some to do that? No that ain't it chief. - People wanted a more balanced PvP experience - Double primary was just a bad idea - Fixed rolls creates a balanced environment, but completely kills the excitement of getting any loot - Fixed subclasses meant easier balancing, but makes the game stale - Faction rallies are hated, ok just remove the faction themselves, when the event was the problem - Trials of the Nine didnt succeed, so remove it - problem was the sandbox, not the gear or theme. Again, a lot of the ideas and concepts Luke has are fine, but he just goes off the rails in the execution / solutions. He listens to feedback, and then comes up with a ridiculous solution that nobody asked for.

He thinks wrong things. He stated that he knew people who told him that they were having fun playing with a rifle and in his brain he had the thought "how do I put a stop to that?" He hears that people aren't using the Warlock Void subclass that they destroyed and instead of thinking "we should fix that" he thinks "we should remove that". It's like there's something wrong with his mind.

The issue is that he has a monkey paw way of working that no matter how good the idea is. His style leads the result to be dog shyt every time.

  • Because he’s their C-level director and this game is not the priority, it’s just a cash cow.

  • Don’t forget his last post-forsaken scheme which he has walked back...FOMO.
