The story wasn’t terrible, honestly, it just for some reason decided we weren’t the main character. Like, every time something happened, Leon just kinda took care of it for us. The Wild Area was neat, but I hope it stays the way it is. That is to say, a small open area, rather than an entire open world. I like the linear structure, with an open area to run around in as the endgame. An entire open world wouldn’t be very fun, I think. The designs this time around are some of the best! This gen & last gen have been superb in that department. And wherever they go next, I hope we get some form of raid battles again. I really enjoyed co-op!

 • Hey, did you hear about Leon, the unbeatable champion? With his powerful Charizard, he’s undefeated! The champion Leon’s got this, he’s undefeated, and with his Charizard, he’s unbeatable. Shall I go on?

 • Oh, but did you also hear he's bad at directions? He gets lost easily too! He also has a Charizard.

 • Don't forget that he's also the champion!

 • I actually loved Leon doing a lot of the stuff from a story perspective, maybe not a gameplay one. I find it unrealistic that about 7 different times now, a ten year old kid almost single handedly takes down a world destroying plot.

 • It was a neat idea, but it would’ve worked better if either; A. Leon failed, and we save him earlier in the game. B. We get pulled into the plot earlier on. The issue isn’t necessarily that we aren’t the star, it’s that we were a minor side character. Yeah, not even a major one! It’s like if that one girl who had a crush on Brody stepped in to defeat Groudon and Kyogre in the end. If you don’t know who I’m talking about.. Well, yeah, that’s kind of the point. :p

 • Have you read the comics? After reading the whole English series, the Pokémon in-game stories just don't feel so... Thought out. It's like watching movie after reading the book it was based after. But instead, the comics are based off the game... *displayed perplexity* I haven't played Pokémon Sword or Shield yet, so I can't judge those. But have you read the series? READ THE SERIES. Especially the ones with Archie.

 • That’s because they have more time to make the comics, I think.

 • I still think the story was pretty terrible. Team Yell, was, well, not great. It's like they saw everyone loved Team Skull, then remade them but worse. Then Rose had no buildup to his big bad moment... and like you said, the whole story you're almost a side a character. Whenever something bad happens Sonia or Leon take care of it. I get that people don't usually get Pokemon games for their stories, but after SM I was hoping it would stay that good. And yeah, the Wild Area should stay like it is. They could rebalance XP gains though, as I ended up almost 10 lvls overleveled on most battles without even trying.

 • Everything you just said about the story.. Is true. Now, I know what you’re thinking; “Aifos,” you say “you just agreed with me that the story is terrible, but you also said it’s not terrible, so what’s the deal?”. Well, for all its flaws, the characters were really good this time around. All three of your rivals had good character arcs, both Sonia and Leon were interesting characters instead of plot devices, and the gym leaders this time around are my favorites we’ve ever gotten. A bad story with good characters still gets you a good story most of the time, imo. Definitely not as good as Moon, though. There’s nothing wrong with the XP gain in the Wild Area, they just need to make sure to only let you in at the end of the game.

 • That's what's so weird about this one. The characters are some of the best, but the story they're in is the worst. Even the Gym Leaders are good, Piers is my favorite in any game.

 • Yeah, pretty much. I enjoyed the characters enough to make up for the not super great story, though. Bea is my favorite gym leader, personally!
