Sotha Holmes shall walk forward towards the entrance. Before he enters he places a open faced helmet upon his head. The helmet is a shining brass color adorned with a large clockwork crown made of three long metal prongs. He then places a mask upon his face which attaches to the helm. The mask is carved in the snarling visage of a god and a large chin like design extends from it. The eyes of the mask are large many lensed goggles which almost make his glowing red eyes appear to split in many directions like those of a bug. His grey pointed ears extend from under the helm as slots are cut out for them.
After all this was a costume party and who doesn’t love a mask.
His robes flow dramatically as he walks and the clicking of mechanical armor underneath can be heard. The wizard looks around cautiously. Observing all he can.
I wish I could get a better description. I tried drawing the mask but as we can see from the picture, or more lack of picture, I am not a artist.
"Fantasy, horror, mystery, books about monsters and magic..." she leads you down the central hall to another tower balcony with a collapsed stairway, then down another hall to the left. She pauses and points to the first door to the right, "That's mothers room. I don't think she would keep anything important or secret in there, though. The library is further that way." Autumn points to the end of the hall, where another wall of shadowy mist looms in the doorway.
-
“Is that actually there? Do you see that mist? That is how I originally came here. I wonder if it will take me elsewhere.” I am going to walk up towards the fog and examine it. If my spell is still active (it last for 10 minutes) I will search it for magic.
-
"Mist? Inside? No, I don't..." Examining the mists, you find swirls within of all schools of magic, aswell as something else. The shadows seem to be a lack of magic, or anything at all... a dark void, a scar in reality.
-
“Well I suppose I am the only one then. If I continue that way I shall probably soon leave you and find myself at another tear in reality itself. Yet it seems I must enter sometime. Who knows where I can end up next. Unless I have always been in the same place.” Is shall place a small mechanical gear upon the floor almost as a cosmic breadcrumb. Although I don’t know if it would work since I am somewhat a ghost. I will wave goodbye but not enter yet.
-
The gear lies upon the floor. Autumn nudges it with her foot, and it moves! "Weird... maybe try thinking about the library really hard? Or maybe if I take your hand and lead you through? I've helped ghosts move on before, it's... kind of the same?"
-
“All of this is really fascinating. The most simple yet maddeningly complicated way of traveling through reality would to just simply to cease to be here and begin existing there. Of course this could be all a dream and if I am aware of that I could manipulate it and appear at the library. Although I am possibly not the dreamer, after all I was invited. Either way I shall not attempt to do.....well something or other.” Before attempting to manipulate the very reality which I am unsure the meaning of, I shall take the small metallic spider I used for the mending spell from my bag and carve the letter S twice on it. Then I shall hand it to autumn. “Take a souvenir from a time traveling ghost. If it is indeed time travels I will probably get this back anyways.” I shall then close my eyes and start contemplating. The vast tides of chaos forever untamed by all. Strings and pencil markings of the universe manipulated by the will of the very people living inside it every day. Other random gibberish that may or may not exist. I shall try to cease being here and begin existing there. There being the library.
I have no hope whatsoever that this will work but it’s worth a try and quite fun.
-
A moment passes and she whispers, "I don't think it's working..."

Edited by Warlock Holmes: 10/6/2020 7:18:11 PM“Well it was worth a try. I could try for month or even years but I feel I must move on. After all I must find why I am here. If only I had a magical hammer, dagger, and a giant beating heart of a god. Try guiding me then and if I disappear goodbye. You shall probably hear of me in the future. Your future that is.”
-
"Okie dokie, if you do vanish, it was nice meeting you!" She takes your hand and leads you into the mist. Darkness takes you... There's a mechanical clicking sound before you, then the sound of something sliding. Your vision slowly returns and you are standing within a library. Impossibly vast, given the height of the domed roof above, far taller than the structure of the mansion should allow. A large chandelier and various sconces with violet flames cast dim light within. Rows to either side of you curve inward and another before you leads to a small opened area with a few reading desks. Something odd catches your eye, creeping along the surface of one book shelf are withered, thorny vines... and beside you stands a grown Autumn, in her dark ragged robes and pointy hat, looking very confused! "Wait, Winter? Where...what... you! Uh... hi?"
-
Edited by Warlock Holmes: 10/7/2020 4:00:21 AM“Well apparently it did work and I teleported to the library. Although what was that clicking? Click click click click. Then a sliding. Am I in a machine?” I will close my eyes and try to replicate the noise in my mind. It takes a while for me to realize I skipped through time. “Wait a minute. I must have not just moved forward in space but also time. Although we always are moving through time although I just moved faster. Well assuming we are in the normal state of reality.”
-
Autumn blinks and is silent a moment, then raises her spectral hands. "Okay, so if I have this straight... you showed up in my bedroom a couple of centuries ago and vanished while I was leading you here. Then, I die and end up in the Nowhere with Winter. I perform a ritual to project my spirit across the realms hoping to contact one of my sisters, but instead I arrive in the library just as you arrive aswell... Or have you been waiting here for centuries? Time is funny sometimes, especially when you live forever." As she speaks, you hear shuffling feet and moans at the end of the row.
-
“Centuries? Well it seems you are catching up with my own timeline if not already almost caught up. For myself it has only been a couple seconds when I saw you last still as a little girl. Fascinating. This all leads to the question of, why are we here? Why did you arrive here and why was I here to begin with? Did you learn anything about the wards on the house? Also how does one quickly find something in a library this vast?” As I speak I shall look over to the shuffling noises and try to see what it is.
-
"Time is funny in the Nowhere. Anyway, real quick before my spell ends!" Autumn speaks rapidly, without taking a breath. "I found the wards and enchantments, they were very broken but inert, so something must have triggered them and I'm guessing I know what. I'm dead and trapped in the Nowhere with Winter. If there's someone in Offtopic with our face, it's not us! It's something old, angry, and very sleepy that wants to end reality because we keep it awake! The solution to all of these problems lies within the catacombs, a black glass orb that needs to be contained, destroyed, dispelled, whatever! I don't think anything immediately useful would be kept here in the-" At the end of the rows, a group of three zombies appear. Their bodies are covered in the same withering vines and wilted roses where their eyes would be. "...so that's new." Autumn points.
-
I shall back away from the zombies while speaking. “Understood. Get to the crypts and permanently borrow a orb. Then work to stop not Nil from destroying the entirety of reality. This predicament is quite interesting but possibly very important. The crypts are outside right? Behind the house?”
-
Edited by Unseelie Nil: 10/7/2020 6:54:18 PM"Yes, theres a garden and a courtyard overlooking the cliffs with a lovely view of the city. Somewhere along the mountain is an entrance. Library exits are on the third and fourth floors! Good luck again, strange metal man!" The zombies start to approach!
-
I will stare at my hands then feel the metal mask on my face. Both myself and my character have forgotten that they where encased in metal. “Where does the flesh end and the metal begin? Has it become a part of me?” I come to realize. Although I significantly quicken the realization for there is some sense of urgency. “Good luck Autumn. Perhaps I shall see you again. Perhaps not.” With that I shall turn towards the zombies and cast the grease spell. Also, am I still some sort of astral projection?
-
You are whole again, and the spell causes the zombies to fall into a pile! Autumn remains, standing awkwardly, "I... think I'm stuck. I guess I hadn't considered sending my spirit from a sort of afterlife back to the mortal plane. My body is still here somewhere, so maybe I am still connected to it? I should have brought Winter back with me, now I feel bad... for Winter....ew."
-
“Well then welcome back for now. I normally don’t ask but do you want these zombies? I figured you may want them for ummm necromantic purposes. If not just give me the word and they shall be destroyed.” Electrical energy sparks down my metal arm and I shall prepare to throw a lighting bolt if the zombies are not wanted.
-
"Not particularly, no." The zombies are doing a terrible job of climbing back to their feet. It's difficult to avoid slipping in grease without eyes!
-
I shall cast a spell and launch a bolt of lighting at the zombies.
Dexterity check or take 36 damage.
-
The trio of zombies are electrocuted and fall silent and limp. Autumn is examining the shelves nearby, "This section is all about plants and alchemical recipes, so the nearest stairs should be along the wall to the right!"
-
I shall follow the walk and loon for the staircase. Also I will scan the walls more closely to skim book titles and look for hidden passages.
-
chain 3
There is no response as you enter what appears to be the third floor balcony of a tower. A spiral metal staircase descends below into shadows, and into a room above. To your right lies another hallway with three doors along one side and another row of windows. The first door is cracked open and you can see the flickering light of a flame and hear someone playing a violin. And from above you hear glass shatter and a scream.
-
As must as I like the violin I must investigate the scream. Screams usually lead to interesting mysteries or events. I shall take the stair into the room above to investigate.
-
You enter the top of the tower, a circular room, with books and candles scattered about. There's a spire roof above and three windows behind thick curtains, the fourth is broken and the curtain lies upon the floor. In the center of the room sits a pale young girl in a black dress. Within the ray of light lies the body of a raven. She reaches for it and her hands begin to burn in the sun.
