Sotha Holmes shall walk forward towards the entrance. Before he enters he places a open faced helmet upon his head. The helmet is a shining brass color adorned with a large clockwork crown made of three long metal prongs. He then places a mask upon his face which attaches to the helm. The mask is carved in the snarling visage of a god and a large chin like design extends from it. The eyes of the mask are large many lensed goggles which almost make his glowing red eyes appear to split in many directions like those of a bug. His grey pointed ears extend from under the helm as slots are cut out for them.
After all this was a costume party and who doesn’t love a mask.
His robes flow dramatically as he walks and the clicking of mechanical armor underneath can be heard. The wizard looks around cautiously. Observing all he can.
I wish I could get a better description. I tried drawing the mask but as we can see from the picture, or more lack of picture, I am not a artist.
The thing does not flinch as the dagger flies past and embeds into the wood, missing the thread. Then three books fly from the shelves towards you! (The first two miss with super low rolls, but the third is a nat 20 for Big Book Damage! 5 bludgeoning.) "I may have banished your ally and assumed her form, but I wasn't lying about the spell tome. The books are awarded against the likes of me, or I'd retrieve it myself."
-
“I don’t think I have ever been attacked by books before. I shall have to find that ritual book after our battle for I am Interested on what it is myself.” I shall cast a magic missile spell in a 4th level spell slot. I send five missiles towards the creature in front of me and one towards one of the sting. The spell specifies that they hit creatures so it could be possible that I just made a magic missile actually miss but this isn’t the first time a inanimate object was actually living and I am curious. The 5 missiles target there for for 14 damage (2, 3, 4, 2, 3) The string, if the arcane missile can even target it, will take 5 damage.
-
So the stats say the thread is immune to damage, but I think that's silly. It's essentially a part of the creature stretched out and smaller, so realistically it should be easier to deal with if the player found it, and you found it, so!
Your missiles strick into the creature and you see its form ripple with each impact. The last missile strikes the tether and severs it, which causes the simulacrum to collapse into a puddle of red ooze!
-
If the creature is defeated h better retrieve that book before anyone else does. Who knows what someone could do with it. I shall fly down back towards the desk and retrieve the three books found on it if they are still there. Then I will float around the library looking to find how it is organized and more importantly looking for any shelves with topics similar to those of the three books.
-
The books are still where you found them.
And I'll just put this here for scrollings sake The first is titled "Bloodlust and Buccaneers" and appears to be a romance novel about pirates and vampires... The second is a parody self help book titled "Ask Baba Yaga" And the third is a children's book, "Children's Guide to Necromancy."

The first is titled "Bloodlust and Buccaneers" and appears to be a romance novel about pirates and vampires... The second is a parody self help book titled "Ask Baba Yaga" And the third is a children's book, "Children's Guide to Necromancy.

Three books, three shelves, and three words. Maiden, Mother Crone.

Hmmm. Very interesting. I shall just post my thoughts to try to explain my further actions. So it seems I have the three books I need now the words and shelves. Perhaps these books correspond with different shelves in the area which are categorized by the three words. The books must return to there shelves or I must take them there. With the topics the Crone could refer to the Witch Baba Yaga, maiden for the maidens the pirates or vampires courted? I don’t know I haven’t read to many romance novels. Mother for necromancy because someone’s mother was a necromancer? Autumns perhaps or even her mothers mother. I’m not really sure. Or it could be reverse. The shelves could be organized by topic and genre and therefor I must find the genre sections for these books and then find books in those shelves that correlate with the words. Maybe I am completely wrong. Not unlikely. Either way I will want to see how the library is organized.
I am unsure if teleportation and sending spells will work here so it may not be possible for me to summon my own simulacrum to help in the process. I shall try to figure out how the library is organized by scanning around the general area on the different shelves.
-
The shelves appear to be organized by genre, and you notice not a single book missing. You also find a small map pinned to the side of a row.
And for my sanity and the sake of simplicity, just roll an investigation check please, because I didn't make a fully detailed library!
-
22 for investigation. That does make sense. I didn’t expect a full detailed library and was a little concerned that I was asking to much. After all you have all these people to deal with.
-
Analyzing the map, three shelves stand out. The Children's section to the left, against the wall. Romance on the third floor, above you. And Comedy on the second floor to the right.
-
Well then I shall start with the comedy section. I am going to investigate the shelves for any secrets and also for any books starting with the three words. Maiden, Mother, and Crone.
16 for investigation if necessary.
-
You float up to the second floor balcony and quickly find the shelf, along with a patch of vines whose glowing roses seem to watch you as you pass...
-
I am going to look at the vines and roses. While I don’t know much about nature I want to somehow investigate.
17 on a nature check if necessary. Sorry it took so long to respond.
Edited by Unseelie Nil: 10/17/2020 5:58:28 PMThey are definitely not natural, there's a sentience behind them and you can hear a faint humming.
I missed a bunch of Notifications so I figured the website bugged out again for others aswell
-
Well I shall investigate the bookcase for any hidden compartments or something.
-
Chain 5
Skimming the titles you see mostly books on alchemy. The Alchemists Formulary 101 Uses for Troll Fat An Herbalists Guide to Nowhere "Stop, vines ahead!" Autumn calls out
-
I shall try to stop and look for these vines with the assumption that they are those thorny zombies we saw earlier.
-
You turn to see a thick bramble of thorny vines directly in front of you, though you can also hear moaning on the other side.
-
I shall cast fly and try to hover around the vines.
-
On the other side you see three zombies around a spiral metal staircase.
-
Surprisingly I have many fire based spells and i really don’t want to put this grand library at risk. I shall cast a spell throw a knife of ice at one of the zombies. The ice knife then shall explode towards the others. 16 to hit for 10 damage as the ice knife hits its target. The others have to make a dexterity check or take 9 damage.
-
The first one falls and the other two take damage as shards of ice impact them! You notice the vines are starting to look more lively, with rose buds appearing within... you also notice Autumn has vanished
-
I shall float downwards and shocking grasp a renaming zombie. 16 to hit for 4 damage.
-
Another falls, while the other swipes at you! (17 for 6 damage)
-
It’s claws shall slice into my flesh. I will punch at it with a bolt of electrical shock. 18 to hit for 4 damage.
-
It falls and the immediate area falls silent
