“Picking up a signal.” I tell my head-Sentinel Toby. “It looks interesting. I will check it out, you stay here and guard the fortress.”
Toby bows. “//MY PURPOSE IS TO SERVE//“
I teleport to my Guantlet fighter and race off towards the signal.

-
You arrive at the town to find it empty, items strewn across the streets
-
I tread forward cautiously, with my hand on my hip.
-
You walk forward carefully, passing by children's toys and market items. Scratches mar the sides of buildings, and some doors are barely hanging onto their hinges
-
I draw my axe and set it aflame, hoping to deter any would-be attackers
-
A small doll drops out of a door accompanying a small gasp and a slamming door
-
I sheath my axe quickly, realizing this must be a child and I probably am scaring him. I walk over to the doll and pick it up, looking for it’s owner.
-
You see the closed door where the doll came from, and you hear a crash inside the building
-
“Hello?” I call out. “Is anyone there? Don’t be afraid, I’m not here to harm you.”
-
You don't hear anything in response
-
I walk in slowly. “I’m unarmed.” I say as I drop my axe handle to the side. “I just want to know what’s going on here.”
-
The closed door remains shut, held closed by something
-
I knock on the door. “Hello? Is anyone in there?”
-
You hear another small gasp, but the door doesn't open
-
I try to pull it open.
-
sorry, I forgot to mention, it's a push door
-
😡
I try to push the door open
-
You manage to force the door open after a struggle, as a bookshelf was barricading it. Upon entering, a small children's book is thrown at you by a little girl
-
I take the hit without flinching. “I’m not here to hurt you, little one. I want to know what happened here.”
-
She stays back. "How do I know you're not one of them?"
-
“Well uh, for starters, I’m not burning down the town. What do they look like?”
-
She shakes visibly. "They didn't burn... they looked like people, but different..."
-
I scratch the back of my neck. “Well I don’t burn either, and I don’t look like a person, but I’m not hurting you, am I?”
-
She nods, hesitantly coming closer, then rushing up to hug you
-
I hold her tightly. “It’s ok, little one. You’re safe.”
-
She nods, holding tight as tears stream down her face
