To my understanding skill based matchmaking is ment to git gut. You climb the ladder and go against tougher opponent when you keep improving. Why is it that people say that cbmm is where the real gitting gut is? All people do is stomp on the lower end, while in sbmm was against "your level" of skill and higher. Can someone explain?

 • Here's the explanation that I would believe they have. They just think that if you are up against the toughest of the tough, you would just magically get better. AND I DON'T LIKE THAT EXPLANATION AT ALL IF THAT IS RIGHT. (Mainly because it just doesn't work that way and it's stupid)

 • There's been some really great posts explaining this to me in here, in terms of the philosophy and theory of how it should work. What I've learned is that basically SBMM unintentionally coddles you, because you're only exposed to players in a certain range on either side of you, good and bad. (So me going from usually 5th or 6th on a scoreboard to usually 2nd only meant I was getting better within that narrow bracket of players). While I did put work in and improve, SBMM meant I was never playing against REALLY good people, so I wasn't improving that much. Kind of like learning to ride a bike but never actually taking the training wheels off. CBMM is just everybody thrown into a big pot and so you're forced to get good because there's more challenge. The training wheels of being coddled in my narrow skill bracket are gone, and it turns out the race course of the entire community in PvP is actually a giant downhill slalom covered in half-pipes. .... really had to work to make that metaphor work at the end there. Let me know if that helps. Some of the other posts in here do a much better job of explaining it. Also with numerical examples too, if you're that way inclined.
