having exactly same problem on my third character. Ever since season of arrival, my PS4 pro has been overhearting, fan constantly running, lagging, framedropping, and now shutting down on the same spot of the mission.
Edit : i solved it by lowering resolution from 2160 to 720 and not looking at the shiny particles (walking backwards to the spot)

Good advice here. I was able to get past that point by taking the top lid off the ps4 and then letting it suck plenty of air while I ran through the effect backwards.
