Since politics and religion became illegal, it's time for science to shine! Do you think there is a flat planet in the universe?

Or in a different universe (if we live in a multiverse) where physical laws could be different?

A celestial body is only classified as a planet if it meets a certain set of criteria. One of those criteria is that the object needs to be spherical or sphere-like in nature. By definition, there is no such thing as a flat planet.

  • Well.....if a planet gets swallowed by a black hole it would probably be flat for a while.

      • There is a small chance of a 2 dimensional alternate universe. There is an even small chance of a 2 dimensional planet in our universe. There is no chance that earth is either of those 😇

          • In this day and age science is considered political. Apparently whether or not you accept scientific facts is just a matter of personal opinion and political allegiance. Case in point: climate change, evolution and vaccines are apparently only real if you want to believe they are real.

            • If it is flat, would it actually be a planet?
A planet is an astronomical body orbiting a star or stellar remnant that is massive enough to be rounded by its own gravity, is not massive enough to cause thermonuclear fusion, and has cleared its neighboring region of planetesimals.
So, no.

The only way I imagine a flat planet could exist is if some freak collision(s) would occur to slice it in such a way. But long-term, gravity would prevail and make it spherical again. In a different universe, it's hard to imagine that gravity would exist to such an extent that planets would form, but not to the extent that it would force them into spheres. Then again, it's hard to speculate on anything outside of our universe and our 3D intuitions and perceptions.

Not in our universe, no. Gravity’s a field force, in a 3D field. That’s why everything’s all spherical and shit.

              • Flat Earthers have some merit to their claims, yes. The earth used to be flat, when it was known as Pangea. It was one flat, circular disk, named from the ancient Sumerian words “Pancake” and “Gealeatine” because it represented the shape of a pancake, and it’s muddy, earthy, dirt type texture was similar to a pudding like dessert known as gealeatine. So “Pangea” roughly translates to “Pudding Pancake” As it flipped through space, it eventually landed on a tectonic plate that was heated by the sun. This tectonic hot plate became tilted, so this pudding pancake slid into the water and was melted by the sun, causing it to clump up and disperse into what we now call “Incontinents” because if you eat Pudding Pancakes that are too gooey, they go right through you. This is what led our planet into the great epoch known as the “Porcelain Period” in which the earth was placed into a spinning vortex which eventually caused the earth to spin and congeal into the round shape it is today.

              • It probsbly wouldn’t be classified as a planet in that case.
