• What a defeatist attitude. What do you possibly stand to gain by defending Bungie's anti-consumer practices?

What do you possibly stand to gain by defending Bungie's anti-consumer practices?
I think you don't understand what seasonal content is, that's like crying "anticonsumer practices!" because events (CD, Dawning, FotL, Iron Banana, etc) come and go and you didn't get to play Tough luck but that's what happens. If bungie were to keep seasonal content in the game, the tower would get bloated with stuff , like right now the tower obelisk is right where normally bungie puts other event assets, like a tree or the solstice of heroes statue. Besides the game can't keep growing in size, there's only so much space a drive can have.

  • CD, Dawning, Iron Banner is different, that's actually seasonal. The season pass content is Bungie's excuse for not putting out content that players can keep up to date with in their own time, and that's the part that I disagree with. Like OP said, they're trying to farm FOMO, and that's a shitty, anti-consumer practice. And yea, I'll keep crying about it... • This is not an either or argument. You can disagree with OP and think Bungie is a dumpster fire. I don’t defend Bungie and I love to heap on the criticism when warranted (which is often). But I’m not at all about to criticize a game for a player choosing not to play in a given season. Up front at the beginning of the season, anybody who can read saw that the season content would go away. Like it or not, you KNEW that when you bought it. So OP either a) is pissed he bought something without reading the mountain of coverage on the “content expires” topic or B) didn’t buy it and now is pissed he didn’t? Neither of which is Bungie’s fault. Lots is. This isn’t.

Like it or not, you KNEW that when you bought it.
Sure, it's OPs fault for not playing it while it was available, but I still think the seasonal model is anti-consumer and think that Bungie is a dumpster fire for using a FOMO-farm business strategy. Porque no los dos? Why can't it be both?

  • As a consumer, I don’t like it. But as a capitalist, I see that the way the industry is most profitable these days is exactly this. Less content, on a regular cadence that’s a limited time offer, that relies heavily on micro-transactions is THE key formula to make the most money. Like I said, I don’t like it, but it’s the SMART business decision in today’s environment. More profit for less investment. Can’t call Bungie our for being a dumpster fire when they’re actually doing exactly what’s smart by the market standards of the day.

  • And as long as we continue to roll over and lap up everything that our corporate overlords deems fit to ration out to us, we can continue to expect games to be drip fed out to us in order to fuel the Microtransaction machine. Best to let it be known that we don't agree with their shit.

  • Yeah, but the thing your ignoring... the game is fun. Period. End of story. I don’t like some of what they do, but I like crucible, like gambit, love PVE, enjoy the sundial for a bit, probably will like the next limited time game mode... I get WAY more enjoyment than $3 a month. So you can talk about being a slave to an overlord al you want if it makes you feel better. But I like the product that Bungie makes. I don’t love it. It’s woefully inadequate at times, but beyond worth $3/mo. You’re caught up in the stuff you don’t like. I choose to acknowledge there is infinitely more things I like about the game than I don’t. And yeah, I’ll criticize those I don’t like all day long. But I’d be an idiot to ignore the good just to feel better about complaining about the bad.

  • Hey, if you find a daily list of chores before you can play the game you want to play fun, then power to you. It's not about price at all. If it was a $ per month factor that you're considering to be the yardstick for entertainment, then we'd all be playing Warframe instead. It's not about cost or value for money, it's about choosing the path I want the industry to take, and I'm not going to support this trash, there's many more fun games out there to play...

I’d pay to play destiny vs play free warframe any day of the week. Warframe is shallow. It’s topical. It’s fun for awhile and then... meh. I played it for a good long while. In fact, I started playing when I got burned out on D1 and somebody told me it was just like destiny only better. 🤦‍♂️ I don’t do those “daily chores” you talk about. Or rather, I do when I feel like it. Why do you feel forced to do them? You do realize you can simply log in and play exactly how you want to, yeah? I support games that are fun. I buy products I like regardless of the company’s human rights or labor records. I watch movies regardless of the actor’s political views. I watch sports regardless of how big an ass the super star is. I pay money to games that I find fun - and there is a metric ton of fun to be found in destiny 2 if people bother to step off a soapbox and look. Whichever path a company takes is irrelevant. You’re not gonna change them because there is money to be made “that way.” Vast sums of money. And there are far more people like me who play just because it’s fun than there are crusaders. You want to stand on principles - legit props. You go crusade. I’ll be having fun.

I'd much rather pay a monthly sub for Final Fantasy XIV than put up with these seasonal models that games are coming out with these ways. And I'm certainly having fun doing it too.
