This is only the second time in recent history or recent recollection of either games that they had to do this. I would take that into consideration.

I'l take that in consideration, but does that change the fact that it doesn't leave a good impression? Absolutely not. I've played games where it tells you on screen while you're in free roam, a mission or whatever, that maintenance will begin shortly and then you know it's time to log out. Why would they let people continue to play the game if their progress won't be saved? I received a message on my screen a good 5-10 minutes after arriving back at the tower. A good 5-10 minutes after equipping the weapon and showing my friend how it looks. I've been playing online shoot and loot games for a long time and this is the first time something like this has ever happened to me. You can say what you want, but it doesn't change the fact that this is the result of incompetence.

It notifies you when scheduled maintenance/updates are going to take place. The rollback was completely unscheduled, and was done as an emergency measure. There was no notification, because it was not planned.
