Wouldn't it make more sense to just make swords special weapons. I would rock one in place of one of my shotguns for sure. Didn't they do it with Trace Rifles?

No, with trace rifles, they turned them from primary weapons into special weapons. And if swords go into the special slot, it could potentially replace shotguns in a lot of activities. They have places where they are really strong at right now. Not the Crucible exactly, but in a lot of PvE activities. It's a balancing act.

My bad about the trace rifles. I'll be honest though, I wouldn't mind something competing with shotguns, especially if its a sword.
