My gildtusk with surrounded and surrounded spec is hungry for more champions. Out of power ammo....NP...equip sword...profit.. But i wonder...cant they make swords special weapons then? If you will always have ammo for them. Then you can use a sword and a good exotic power weapon.

 • I believe you are a bit mistaken there. Quote from TWAB:
Sword Energy Swords now have their own reserve of energy that recharges naturally on its own, and is not to be confused with ammo capacity. This energy will overtake your melee slot while you’re wielding a sword and is spent on various actions.
They went on to say that swords will still have ammo and attacks will still consume the ammo, but blocking is the only thing that will no longer use up any ammo. Sword energy is its own thing. Based on what they said, I believe that the melee icon in your in-game UI will be replaced by some icon representing sword energy while you have a sword pulled out. This isn't exactly a buff from the looks of it. It seems to be implying that it's just a general rework of swords.

 • Awwww...seems i misread that. Would have lived for swords to just recharge energy... Would only make sense because swords dont use AMMO.

 • They wouldn't want swords to replace shotguns. Plus, a change like that might not ever happen due to Black Talon using projectiles and the game's limitations. They could probably write a lore book about swords being magical though. Some insight about why swords are elemental and turn transparent after they use all of their ammo, right? lol

 • Swords are already worse than shotguns. Shotguns have more range and use green ammo. An energy meter for LEGENDARY swords that autoregenerates over time would be just what swords needed

 • Well from my experience as a Warlock, my sword is better than a shotgun at DPS and holds 70 ammo without armor reserve mods while shotguns can hold between 14-to-25 ammo without reserve mods. I use it a lot in Gambit Prime for boss DPS while I'm solo-queuing and I can usually two-phase the boss if I'm focused on it. Death's Razor is an Adaptive Frame, so I speak for most swords that I've used. Right now, you can have an entire team use many swords throughout the Last Wish raid and clear it all without having to use a different heavy weapon while one-phasing Riven with the cheese. I think Kalli can be two-phased by swords. Throne-Cleaver hits pretty hard right now. I have one-phased the Ogre boss in the Shattered Throne dungeon with it and a Well of Radiance solo, so I think that speaks for itself. Goldtusk is a bit different though. I've heard a few times that without Surrounded, it can suffer in some areas. Don't know from experience though. I don't have a Hunter on my account, so I've never got to use those types of swords before to say for sure. Have you tried any Adaptive Frame swords recently? Could be worth the time.

 • I didnt mean their DPS whe i said worse than shotguns. I meant their range and ammo. Goldtuks can 3 slap a barrier champion when surrounded is procced in the legend sundial.

 • In that case, it doesn't sound that bad to me. At the moment, I can agree that the sword range kind of sucks compared to other options. That's part of the reason why they aren't commonly used in the Crucible right now. Your point on the ammo though, I don't agree with. Do you tend to use heavy attacks or light attacks? Because if you use a lot of heavy attacks, you could be using up more ammo than necessary. Let's say there's a somewhat-strong Knight and you're using an Adaptive Frame sword. You could kill it with 2 heavy attacks and use 8 ammo. Or you could kill it with 4 light attacks and use 4 ammo. You could also kill it with 2 light-to-heavy aerial combos, which come out faster than standard light combos, and use 4 ammo. In my case, I prefer using light attacks because it saves ammo in the long run. There are times when a heavy attack's burst damage is nice, but I'd rather not use two heavy attacks back-to-back and waste a lot of ammo and potential damage. I tend to use heavy attacks if something comes up and I need to wrap up a fight. And compared to shotguns, swords are much, MUCH more ammo efficient than they are. One heavy ammo brick in PvE tends to give you 14+ sword ammo depending on your ammo capacity. And despite the fact that swords don't really make sense, you can put Backup Mag on one. Swords are the only weapon in the game where putting Backup Mag on them increases their 'reserves' AND grants more ammo to them when you pick up heavy ammo bricks. Right now, that is.
