Why do keto? I prescribed to a diet that mad tv has been pushing for years. It is called move more, eat less.
Seriously though, I have been doing just that for the last year and have dropped 50lbs.

Well keto is a good jump-start to eating better. I've lost 6 pounds in 6 days (mostly water weight at first, of course)

I didn't go through the miserable phase you are dealing with. The only time I remember having an extreme craving for sugar was when I stopped drinking pop. I still eat bread and other carb laden food, just in smaller portions.

The sugar cravings died down after 4 days. The point of keto is to deprive your body of carbs and sugar so you begin to burn stored energy instead. I plan to keep up a low-carb diet after I've done a month of this.

I don't need to either, it's simply more convenient at the moment.

Don't let it bite you in the ass, I see a lot of people gain the weight back when they do diet plans like this.
