Honestly? I think it was the weakest of the nine movies. 1. The pacing was poor. It was like trying to drink from a firehose. 2. It was basically a "remake" of Return of the Jedi, and was clearly "fan service" to people who hated The Last Jedi. 3. I did think the story arcs of Rey and (to a lesser extent) Ben Skywalker were handled well. Seeing Rey choose to adopt the surname Skywalker and ignite a gold-bladed lightsaber at the end were some of the few well-crafted and memorable moments in the movie.

Amongst my friend, I'm the only one who shares the opinion that Episode 9 was the weakest movie in the new trilogy. Poor Disney ( never thought I'd be saying that ), they are -blam!-ed when it comes to the future of the Star Wars franchise. They release The Force Awakens, and get criticized for copy-pasting Episode 4 and being unoriginal. They release The Last Jedi, and get criticized for subverting expectations. And Episode 9 shows what happens when you don't properly plan out a trilogy, and stick to a direction.[/i]

Agreed. But I hold this Lucas responsible for this. Not Disney. There is a split between fans who see the franchise as a Modern Myth and those who see it as Modern Fairy Tale. Even though Lucas always intended it as a modern myth, Episodes 4-6 could be seen as both. But Lucas went back and tried to clearly define it as a Myth with the Prequels....and the Fairy tale contingent lost their minds. Lucas didn't stand his ground and defend his work and his vision. He just ran off and hid in retirement. So this schism never was addressed or resolved. With the new trilogy this same split reared its head. The Last Jedi was a movie in the spirit of Modern Myth (again)and the Fairy Tale contingent (again) lost their minds, and basically went to war against the franchise and Disney. Disney backed down and basically gave the Fairy Tale'ers the safe, feel-good, "Return of the Jedi" remake they wanted....and the resort was a bland, predictable movie. Yet I walked out of the theater listening to people say how "great" it was. While at times I'm sitting there in my seat rolling my eyes, and saying "Really". ...and don't get me started on that kiss-from-nowhere between Rey and Kylo. That one actually ticked me off.
