Sorry bud. Your character was deleted and replaced with a default hunter.
https://www.wastedondestiny.com/2_4611686018450687278
characters can only be created manually.
Unfortunately, Bungie does not restore lost or deleted items or characters.
Whether due to accidental deletion or unauthorized account access, Bungie does not recover manually deleted characters or items, and does not replace in-game items that are lost or dismantled.
If you, personally, did not delete anything then it is recommended that you change your passwords, enable 2FA and review the Bungie Account Security Guide for more tips.

Understood on their policy but this wasn't due to unauthorized account access or accidental deletion. This was a direct result of a Bungie update. If there is nothing that can be done I cannot play this game for one more second and I don't recommend anyone else does either. I have been playing Destiny every day for 5 years.

Just to add possibility to the thread, if you do not have 2FA applied to your account, it's pretty likely that a third-party found a way I to your account. The only other options are that you gameshared with someone at one time and they gained access, or there is someone else in the home that did. I would first take care of your security at PSN, even if you need to contact them to implement it. Change your password and make sure 2FA is active. After that, it's up to you. Bungie didn't do it, and since everything is interlinked in a live game, you can't just reset one thing without affecting a long string of other things, including other players. That's why there's a zero tolerance policy on any restoration. If you enjoy playing the game, then do that. You have a brand new season to start with everyone else next week. It shouldn't take long to level back up, especially if you have this has in your vault to help.

If it was due to an update, it would have impacted more players than just you and it would not have created a default hunter and played on it, and it would not show as deleted. Server issue would have just poofed your hunter out of existence, there would be nothing for the api to read as deleted. Even if you refuse to accept it was done manually, their policy also covers lost items and characters which would cover your extremely unlikely scenario.
If there is nothing that can be done I cannot play this game for one more second and I don't recommend anyone else does either.
It is what it is.

I completely get it based on the wastedondestiny that Xaren showed me. It truly sucks and someone who used this game to get out of dire life situations... I can't possibly support it having no back up save data and no recourse. All respect to you guys for answering so quickly.

it is a live game, everything that happens is saved at that time there is most likely a back up, but would be a server back up not a player back up for cases when a server fails. Any reset at the server level would rewind 11+ days of progress of everyone on that server (based on when your character was deleted). That is most likely why they do not offer individual restorations.

Also, why would the account still show my consumable items and currency?
-
Deleting a character only touches things that are on that character specifically. That includes: - Weapons - Armor - Ghosts - Sparrows - Ships - Quests & Bounties Your Consumables, Modifications, Shaders and Vault are global/shared across all your characters (up to 3). While you may have lost your character, you may have a lot of gear in your Vault that is useful to you. As far as how this happened, it could have been someone else playing with your console (and maybe not admitting it), or if you have ever added your account to someone else's console they would have access to your Destiny characters. Tuxy is very correct, and update would not have deleted your characters and created a brand new one with several hours of play time.

With everything you two have showed me I do believe that manual deletion is possible. The issue is I live by myself and no one has access to my console. I have also changed my password for PSN since moving into the place I am in now. Only thing I can come up with if that my PSN or email itself was hacked and utilized..... even at that... the person would have to have the D2 disk to load the game and even access my account. The vault is completely empty.... the only thing I have is currency and consumables. Thanks again guys.

As of Destiny 2: New Light, there's no requirement to have a disc inserted to play Destiny 2. It's free to play, with only the DLCs having any cost. I do wish you the best, and hope that you are able to recover.

Edited by Doomtrax_: 12/4/2019 7:49:39 PMXaren you have been outstandingly punctual to answer and professional. May the universe grant all of your wishes. However, I don't think I could possibly play this game again knowing something like this could happen. I will see you guys in an alternate orbit some day.

I appreciate your words. Be well.
