How do you feel about being gifted games?

Many thoughts about the possibilities of the thoughts that produce come to mind but what about you guys? Say I gifted a game to you, unannounced and happened to be my (X) favorite game. How would you respond?

A co-worker of mine gifted me spider-man last christmas and I have yet to beat it. I didn’t play right away tbh. In fact, It took me weeks to install it because I had no room on my hdd and was still playing kingdom hearts 3 at the time. I’m pretty sure I uninstalled spider-man during the summer to make space for destiny 2 (another game that’s in my backlog).

    • I'd say "thanks very much!" And give it a go right away to see how much i liked it (or potentially not).

    • I think that’s funny. But I’d be surprised and thankful to be honest. Out of the blue, I’ve been gifted a game.. even if it’s a game I wouldn’t play, it’s still nice getting something. Sooo whatcha gonna get me?

Any gift is a nice gesture regardless of its material value. That said, it feels bad to get a gift knowing you either won’t get use out of it or will go return it. It feels like the other person would think that you don’t appreciate them. When I was younger, my sister and I would try to be obvious about what games we wanted and what games we didn’t. We still got some “surprises”, but 90% of the time they were good surprises, like Oblivion, or The Bourne Conspiracy, or Splinter Cell: Conviction. Luckily, I’ve since reached the point where I genuinely only want socks, and only get socks.

            • I hate gifts. I always feel like I’m indebted to the person who is giving them and if I don’t have something of equal or greater value to give back I feel like I’m stealing something.

I always respond positively to gifts, even if I don't actually like what I've been given. The person took the time to find and buy something just for me, damn right I'm gonna be thankful.

                    • I'd hate appreciating you for giving me a gift because then I'd feel like I owed you something. And I hate feeling indebted.

                      • Pretty damn chuffed. Every now and then I'll gift someone a game on their wishlist if it's on sale and I really want them to play it.

                          • Every time it's happened to me, my response has basically been, "cool thanks." Unless it's a game I really want.

                          • “Cool. Free Game.” Also “Wish I had the storage...” Cause right now I can only run 4 games without running out of space. Thanks Density2, BFII, WARFRAME, and Minecraft.

                              • I’d say “Thanks!” and make sure to at least give it a shot, even if it’s something I wouldn’t normally play. If it’s a multiplayer game, and I wind up not liking it, I’ll usually feel pretty bad about it, though, because if you gifted me a multiplayer game you most likely wanted a buddy to play it with.
