Another Tesla 3 explodes after fender bender

The gif isn't the car from the story here, but yet another Tesla time bomb. Autonomous Tesla Explodes, Twice
The cause was the lithium-ion battery, which was punctured and resulted in the formation of thick black smoke. Soon after, the the car caught fire and engulfed the Model 3 entirely...... Conventional fire extinguishers are rendered obsolete when it comes to lithium-ion battery fires. Instead, thousands of gallons of water are used to contain the fire as best as possible.
In other words, these things have to basically be left to burn themselves out once ignited. Why are these things considered the future of automobiles again?

    • I can see their merit in future; all poineering technology has teething problems. But the people acting like Teslas are already superior in every way to ICE cars as is are kidding themselves. We have a long way to go still.

Man, this is what I am talking about! Our firefighters are not prepared to fight this. How much water do we lose? How much contamination is caused by the leaks or putting out/containing the fire? How are these batteries going to be properly disposed of? What happens if I am on the side of the road and a leaking battery passes by and I get it in my face or on my skin? Do the doctors know how to treat these? California seems to be plagued with brownouts, so what is going to happen when that type of year hits and everyone is driving one of these and charging them at the same times? Not enough information out there and people are not asking these questions.

I have no idea. But. I haven't seen one burst into flames yet from someone attempting to draw more amperage out of their battery pack. If we're gonna blow up a Tesla, I vote we do it like that. Strip it down (even stripped out, they're pretty damn heavy though). Then increase current draw. Couple quarter mile runs. Increase current draw Top off the battery. Repeat until she bursts into flames.

    • Although I’m not a car guy, I can appreciate that there’s a group about vehicles on B.net.

      • Is it just the battery that was the problem. Or something with the structure. And I forget what kind of fire extinguisher it is, but I do know that one exists to stop fires like this one.

I hate electric cars they have a long charge time and they're unpredictable.

          • EVs are probably still the future of automobiles, but we really need to improve battery technology.

          • These things sound more dangerous than the old Pinto's.
