It would be nice to have a measure of it, if only to insulate the newer players from the sweats somewhat. Lets be honest: > Its not fun for newer players to get curbstomped every single game > Newer players being discouraged hastens the shrink of the playercount in PvP and that hurts everybody Conversely... > Strict SBMM can render the game unbearably laggy for statistical outliers at both ends of the skill spectrum - thats not fair on them. > Groups of friends with a disparity in skill will find playing together unpleasant - this is also unfair, and runs contrary to Bungies goal of this being a "social game". I expect a lot of sneering about "social game" but most of its gonna be moot whataboutism. Bottom line, I agree that a measure of SBMM to keep the newbies and less skilled playing against each other more often would be beneficial, but it cant be so strict as to screw over groups of friends or the best of the best/worst of the worst. I also wonder how much realistic difference it would make, given current PvP playercounts. I'm not sure we'd even notice it tbh.

 • That's the thing. The sbmm that exists now is nothing like Y1. As stated in the video, it takes team average rather than match vs highest skill. It's incredibly fair and one of the things that bothers me the most about the other side is that they refuse to recognize that it benefits a lot of players and that there's a middle ground. No one is asking for ultra-strict skill factors, but there needs to be some because the matchups in Y2 can be too grossly broken.

 • I think the raised rate of lopsided matches has a lot to do with the smaller playercount. Right now its either this or a lot of laggy games. Bungie need to figure out how to get more people involved in PvP and this will absolutely involve what some will decry as "participation trophies". And to that my response would be so what? It gets people playing and that can only be beneficial. The newbies and lesser skilled absolutely have to accept that they'll run into better players/teams sometimes. Most of us get stomped sooner or later (for me right now its all the time because brute forcing the Mountaintop quest SUCKS). But the better players among us need to accept that continued pubstomping of lesser skilled players drives them away and makes it just as sweaty for them as strict SBMM would. They also need to accept that as well as some insulation, the lesser skilled players actually need some reason to stick it out in PvP. Something they feel they can attain. The framework of the Revoker quest is much better than previous Pinnacle weapons in PvP IMO, and I'd like to see one tied to Valor as well.
