I'm the Goddess of Death, I can kill anything, but here's a few ways for mortals to deal with those pesky things that escaped the Underworld: Stake through the heart. Severe the spine, bullet to the head, decapitation. Bury them in their former grave. Fire usually works. Burning the bones specifically for spirits. Silver or weapons enchanted with Divine Magics. Magic in general, though some things have resistances to certain schools. Excorsims and Banishments for possessed corpses. Destroying the phylactery for Liches and such.
