Timers are a basically a DPS-check. They narrow the range of options in terms of how to approach the content...and creat artificial difficulty by excessively punishing mistakes, and pressuring players to play recklessly.
Wipe mechanics are disrespectful to players who don't have the time to play several hours a day. Since they basically can waste large chunks of player time by forcing them to keep having to start content over.
So I'm more opposed to the wipe/kick to orbit mechanic than I am to the timer. The timer is simply annoying because its gotten to the point where Bungie is REALLY overusing them.
The Whisper of the Worm was fine, because it was an isolated event in the game when it dropped last year. But now, we're looking at a game where almost everything we do is timed.

I won't stop you two from fighting, but I want to make the intent clear so you two don't get lost. Are timers fun? Are timers challenging? (Do they add challenge?) And do they belong im a looter shooter? I of course have my own opinion, but I'd much rather hear yours
-
The only complaint i have about the timer is those two servitors in the hangar.
-
The complaint is that people are tired of timers....and the presence of the timer force the average player to have to team up. ....and at a time when the vast majority of us have dead clans and empty friends lists.
-
Reckoning has a timer that will fail you. Excluding gambit and crucible, there’s not a single timer telling you to rush or restart besides a few raid encounters wipe mechanics.
-
You need to pay closer attention.
-
Can I get some examples
-
Escalation protocol when it first dropped. The Blind Well. The Forges. The Reckoning. Whisper of the Worm quest. Zero Hour. The Nightfall....which basically (becuase of the changed scoring) basically requires you to have the kick to orbit modifier active if you want the milestone drop for score...and the best chance of getting the strike specific loot item to drop. The Haunted Forest. The Verdant Forest......
-
Lol the verdant forest timer did nothing. I did two matches. One was over 100. You only fail if you want to. Blind well without a timer is easier than a pub event. The timer isn’t the reason you’ll fail, the fact enemies don’t spawn fast enough when you’re solo is. EP the timer was brutal originally. Now it doesn’t do anything if you have the recommended 3 people. And even then the only difficult waves are 2 and 7. The forges timer only affects you if your entire team is under leveled or doesn’t know what to do. Nightfalls are easily soloed with 100k score without even using the nightfall modifier. Some are way harder than others but it’s still very possible. Compared to how they were in Y1, at least you can beat them without being kicked to orbit for not jumping through enough rings. Timers only are hard if you don’t have the skills or ability to communicate as a team. Any of those activities without a timer has no risk or reward. You’d be bored faster playing them than you already are. If you risk nothing then you gain nothing. For how good Outbreak is I’m surprised it’s behind an activity as easy as Zero hour. My team was one 690, me a 700, and a 520 that wanted to see what it was about. 4 attempts total. The Whispers timer was fine. The flinging walls are way more annoying than the timer, constantly forcing you into the enemies.

...and now the goal posts start moving. You asked for examples of timed content with wipe mechanics. Your presonal stamp of "difficulty" wasn't part of the question, kid .
-
Your personal stamp of difficulty wasn’t either, bud.
-
...and it wasn't. Reading comprehension problems, much?
-
I dont know. I’m in a post called Challenge Timers debate attempting to debate someone who doesn’t seem to have read the title.
-
If your "personal stamp of difficulty" wasn't a part of it, then how in the flying -blam!- are you having a debate on the difficulty of timers?
-
I'm not. I'm talking about the problems created by the OVER-RELIANCE on timers as the means of creating difficulty. But like so many of you, the second someone is critical of the timer you jump to the conclusion that they are only critical because they can't do it.
