My thoughts turn too when the drifter was on an ice cold planet, with beings that could create zones that stop the light from doing its thing. Thus the drifter had to somehow make his ghost absorb that darkness in order to survive and live another day. Ghosts are usually quite nice beings because of their affiliation with being born in light, so when absorbing darkness, it'll influence it in ways opposite and visually reflect with color. My guess anyway.

 • Drifter mentions Ghosts he met that were bad. That would of been in the Dark Ages. Either during the Warlord or faction war eras. Before Guardians encountered anything Dark. So it isn’t likely that being exposed to Darkness is what makes a Ghosthave a bad personality. The idea that Light equals good is a total assumption. The Traveler has never warned a single civilization of the Darkness. Think about that.

 •
I'm just following my gut feeling half of the time. So i'll perform and believe my own ideas until official sources say otherwise. I know that some Ghosts have had some negative personalities, like the time there was an interview with 2 ghosts as they are asked questions and have answers based on their own perspectives. As the Speaker says that light lives in all places/things, for a ghost there is only 1 guardian because as proven by saint 14's fight against the vex, they had to make a machine specifically attuned to his light frequency to drain it. Thus that makes me believe that light frequency = Their specific personality to be able to work with a revived entity. Wouldn't be too hard to believe then that ghosts can be malleable to humanities inerrant darkness and light. I would also guess that the traveler just being born from the void, wouldn't understand much and could only learn from its failures, as much as it tried to help civilizations and the like. I would really like to see the first race it encountered.
meh. My thoughts ^

 • The Traveler wasn’t born of of the Void, it was referenced as coming out of the void when it arrived in Sol. We don’t know it’s origins. Closest thing we have is Ghost Fragment Ghosts. Ghosts do maintain only one Guardian at a time but can revive others if the Guardian dies permanently.

 • Maybe, but it’s a Setting he says so maybe it’s not so much absorbing as tapping into another wave length...
I have no clue what it’s transmitted by or what that even means
