Gamer is a label that people usually apply to themselves. I know people who play video games but they wouldn’t call themselves “gamers”. It’s really only used by people who want to identify with that group and with “gamer culture” (whatever that is).
It’s like someone who skates isn’t necessarily a “skater” unless they choose to identify themselves as such and engage in the skater culture. Gamer is a self identifying label people use to feel like they’re part of some sort of gaming culture or movement.
I personally play a lot of video games but I wouldn’t call myself a “gamer” like it’s some sort of identifying label or something. There’s no label for someone who likes to watch TV or listen to music is there?

So you think Gamer is a cultural moniker, a badge worn by the self-proclaimed. That's an interesting take; do you think there is a "Gaming Culture"? Or is it simply just a way for people to feel like they are part of something that largely only exists in their minds? When watching TV or listening to music the role of the watcher/listener is mainly passive as opposed to the active nature of gaming; An audience- not a player.

There definitely is a gaming culture. There’s a thriving board game culture - like D&D groups and stuff like that. Video game culture as well - with twitch streamers and e-sports and that kind of thing. So yes I don’t know why I said “whatever that is” in my original comment - maybe because it’s not really something I personally engage in. But gaming culture does exist.

It's good to know it's not all in my head. But on the other hand- if we wanted to get all x-file-like up in here- how do I even know you people exist if I've never seen you- same with my clan... Yea woa.
Hits blunt
not deep enough...
