I interpreted this completely differently, I believed the emissary was telling us about two being's who have transcended their design or whatever The hour glass referenced someone related to the vex The sword referenced someone related to the hive My theory is Osiris or Prydeth for the Vex, and Toland or Eris for the sword

  •
The hour glass referenced someone related to the vex
Sorry, but I understand people get the reference of time and whatnot, but the hourglass is a symbol. It's not the baseline obvious answer like you might think it is. Vex technology is linear for the most part with only a small potential for growth or change. An hourglass, by definition, is the change in time. I think it's something far more complex to operate with time. In association on the same overall concept. The delta pendulum could go in either direction, but the third being dredgen is also a definition of outcast with purpose to the original system. That is the overall clue here. Those who exist outside, but are within as well or in part have influence enough to warrant observation by the Nine. The Nine, for all the theories floating online, are not in-depth enough honestly. The Nine exist outside the Vex, Hive, Light/Dark and that is why their overall states have a balance between three or more potentials. Technically speaking, but IF the hourglass is Vex-like in nature, Kabr would be more likely then Praedyth. His usefulness is what allowed the bridge to kill Atheon and that power is within the network. It could be called upon.
The sword referenced someone related to the hive
Again, it's not someone. It's something. I get you don't understand a lot, but there is a system at play here I've seen dozens of times across multiple different kinds of games like DnD, Traveler, and other tabletop games. These are factions or pieces of the puzzle. Not blatantly obvious like you would like them to be.
My theory is Osiris or Prydeth for the Vex, and Toland or Eris for the sword
Osiris possibly. Pradyth possibly. Kabr possibly. Another potential though is us. Toland? No. Toland is the guide and has warned us not to listen to him for fear of being manipulated. He is the clue. Not the bridge. Eris- potentially. Crota, Malok, or Nokris clues are all pointing at Malok, son of Savathun with a strong presence to rise up. On the light side though, there are also a lot of possibilities. My count currently is 23 having to do with Hive Sword Logic and that's not even including the Mind Bender since Fukril is still alive. The dredgen is the third class and yes, I agree it is the Drifter, but I'm also wary about the potential for Orin as well. We still have a lot of information to find regarding Orin.

  • But if it's a thing then why would Drifter be the third?

Dredgen. The emissary said Dredgen. Not Drifter. The Drifter though is, in my honest opinion, the only one who seems to have the wisdom about him based on his dialogue and telling us to not follow anyone. He's the only accurate representation of someone who is attempting to become Neutral Good from Chaotic Evil. It's a path rarely seen, but when you do see it? It helps to understand why his ghost has done as much before, why it's still around now, and why he can get away treating it that way when other guardians? The Ghosts left. He's the only one who truly represents an attempt at balance/inner equinox.

  • They're the same person, Drifter was a Dredgen so that's why she called him Dredgen. The hourglass and the sword are clearly actual people

Dredgen is a title. It implies a lot of things. Read between the lines and you’ll see what I’m leaning at and why you can’t assume the drifter.

  • She literally gave us a vision not 5 seconds prior, where she calls him Dredgen. Not to mention that she's been calling him that non stop in the reckoning as well as the vanguard alliance quest Dredgen is the Drifter, it's very implied

There was two dredgen in that company and to get along with this line of discussion: How do you know the Drifter is the focus of the Nine? Why would it be the Drifter as opposed to the other Dredgen? The multiple steps to get to this qualification is a swinging door. You need to stop thinking the Nine are predictable. If it turns out the Nine are warminds for example? They wouldn't care for the Drifter. They would have said Dredgen to reference them completely as a whole and simply called him Dredgen to mean all of you instead of you are a dredgen. Why the Drifter then? Because he can be approached and not shoot the Emissary. The others aren't as trusted.

  • Because Drifter has been the only Dredgen she's ever talked about this entire expansion... If she was referring to another Dredgen than they should have clarified, because no one except you would have understood that
