VIP #1786 is probably Asher. His status as a Gensym Scribe would make him important enough to monitor, but not an official agent of the Vanguard/Hidden
Also they noted how weird it was to see him smile

I don’t think so. 3. refers to “photographic and video evidence recovered from civilian family albums [...]”. It’s some kind of recording of childhood Eris, there’s no reason why Asher Mir should be there.
-
He could've been a childhood friend
-
By that logic it could be anyone alive and young at that time. No real reason it should be Asher specifically.

-
Meh, it’s still just a guess. Not every mystery character has to be someone we already know. And Asher is Awoken. The person is described as “tiny”, so it has to be another child. Why would an Awoken child grow up in a human neighborhood? And Asher still has to die and be resurrected as a guardian, so he wouldn’t even remember their friendship.
-
If Asher Mir and Eris Morn were two of the original colonists aboard the Yang Liwei a.k.a Exodus Green then it is more than possible that they may have known when they were human.
-
Eris is a human, not Awoken.
-
It wasn't a human neighborhood, it was a "mortal-Guardian integrated" neighborhood so there's no reason Asher couldn't have grown up there And I wasn't saying they remembered each other, just that it'd be neat that the two naturally gravitated to each other, even after their memory loss
-
But it was on Earth, most people there would be humans. Asher couldn’t have been a guardian at the time, seeing as the person has to be a child. The only way it could have been Asher, is if his parents got banished from the Reef and somehow entered a human/guardian community or his parents died and he was brought there by guardians or humans. The point is, it’s waaay liker to be an unknown human child. Ever heard of Occam’s razor? Way to many assumptions have to be made. Asher is not the only person to ever not smile.
-
but there are Awoken in the last city such as Tess, Rahool and Jahaal. So having an Awoken family in the Last City isn't out of the question, and besides if they were an unknown human child, they wouldn't have recognized him and made the comment about a child smiling being "almost more unbelievable". That comment suggests they know the person in question, and they're not known to display happiness, almost as much as Eris and they are just as surprised to see them in their innocence.
-
Awoken in the city is normal, but they were talking about a specific neighborhood, a racist one basically. I meant unknown to us, they obviously know who it is.
-
Right. I'm not sure if it's Asher. but among the current candidates Asher is the most likely suspect. If not, then it's someone we haven't met yet or heard of like #0704.
-
Yeah, Asher wouldn't have been a Guardian as a child... so? Children tend to grow up, usually This neighborhood was in the last City at the point where it was they actually had neighborhoods and not just a bunch of tents and caravans, meaning the Awoken exodus already happened, so they would be a decent amount of Awoken around at the time Occam’s razor doesn't apply to fictional narratives and Asher is grumpy enough that an image of him smiling would seem weird
-
Ok, let me phrase it differently. The only thing that points to Asher is the fact the child didn’t smile. And even that feature isn’t exclusive to Asher Mir. It’s far likelier that it’s a human relative.
-
Edited by Clone148: 3/6/2019 9:11:27 PMNot that the child didn't smile, but that whoever child was turned out to be a grouch, and seeing them when they were a happy child is jarring for the agent. Whoever the child is, they are currently a VIP, meaning they're on par with our guardian, Oryx, Variks and the likes. And since they were born in the City and aren't in association with the Vanguard or the Hidden, chances are they're a Guardian, and an important one. Perhaps one who's studies should be surveyed just in case something important comes up, like the Gensym Scribe's research would

You know, all that could be true, but other things are just as likely. I wouldn’t call it a fact until we have more evidence.
-
...thats why I said probably
