Gundam isn’t a Saturday morning cartoon, though it tried to act like one before being met with failure. It’s a war story, characters die, the antagonists are mostly sympathetic (except for one in particular), and the struggle appears to be real. That’s just the first one in the late 70s-Early 80s, and due to Gundam’s success its had a hundred sequels, spin-offs, movies, and even games. The closest thing to transformers you’ll get is giant machines attacking each other, and it ends there.
