B.next vs B.old?

It's come to my attention that bungie.net updated their website to this current iteration slightly over 6 years ago. There are plenty of improvements that came with this update, but there were a handful of downsides too. I immediately missed a few things, such as more clearly defined forums and groups. I think group activity began to die as a result. I also missed the rules regarding banning religious and political discussion, but I'd rather just focus on the site design for now. For those that have been around long enough, what's your thoughts 6 years down the road? Do you find this version of the site from a functionality point of view superior? For those who hadn't been around for it, you can see the old site archived at . In case you're curious. Edit: Scratch that, looks like the forums are no longer archived..that's..depressing.

    • The design is much much better for smart phones. And I like the default dark theme. One thing I dont like is that Bungie first made it so you had to have your account linked to Destiny (only playing one game) to having to get to the Farm in Destiny. After that happened many of the OG’s could not post anymore including my other 15yr account. Which I can still log in but can’t post. Kind of dumb if you ask me.

      • I don’t know if this works, but I can use my thoughts on the Halo series as an example. Most say that the “Holy Trinity” of Halo are objectively better then the new Halos. While I would generally agree, we have o remember that they are all still separate games and should be treated as such. Maybe here was more action and fun going on in the olden days of The Flood, but on the other hand maybe it was as much of a tightly-knit group as it is now.

        • Can't say I was around for the old bungo. I had a ye olde account under an email that doesn't exist anymore but I only really used it for Halo maps. Kinda dig the shitposts, light Roleplay moments, stories, and other series going on. Not sure how I feel about the Gaming/Offtopic merger but guess we'll see

I'm glad they decided to remove the white background. Edit: Though I must admit, the forums themselves aren't quite as bad as people make them out to be. Sure, I do prefer the older forum layout but this one is still manageable. The white background was my most hated thing, and with that gone I don't have seething annoyance over this. Sadly, groups are pretty much non-existent compared to pre-New New Hawtness. Other than that loss, business as usual. Just wish the moderation was as strict as before, but I suppose that's what muting is for.

        • I miss the player made custom maps that popped up on the front page. That and the funny in game photo's people showed off.

          • I barely remember much of the old B.net site, just that there were ranks and people actually respected the guys that had been there longer than them. That is an aspect I sorely miss, even though I never got to completely enjoy it.

            • I like the ability to use this place via the app, which wasn't really a thing back then. I hardly ever use the site anymore on my PC.

                  • I think the site design has less to do with the lack of the community than the fact that Bungie kick off it's old timers on two occasions.

I never really got into the new forums as much as the old ones. The real death blow for me was when they made it required to link your account to a destiny character. Wiped out a lot of the older guys. This is actually my first time back on this site more or less since then. As a side note, I'm still bitter they changed it before I could get a proper title.

                  • And now they're changing again. The world doesn't like to say still does it?
