Lost Izalith in Dark Souls was once the home of the Witch of Izalith and her seven daughters, and I guess still kinda is, but not how they were before.. The Witch’s motives aside (that’s a whole other discussion), she created the Chaos Flame, and it spiraled out of control, corrupting, and twisting all it touched into horrendous demons, and leaving the city surrounded by a molten plain. Gwyn, the Lord of Sunglight led a vicious war against the Demons, the burning conflict charring their armor and weapons black. But the Flame, and the Demons perisisted, and Izalith was left a charred wasteland filled with nothing but death, and Chaos. Or at least that’s what it seems. But maybe, perhaps, the Demons are not twisted monsters, but a proud, and misunderstood people, struggling for survival in a world that can’t accept them..

I have been sent to prevent your corruption from spreading
Had to do it, your post was the perfect opportunity
• ..!? Fine, you caught me, but I’ve got a question. Have you ever heard of.. *slams palms together* The law of equivilant exchange!? *places hands on the ground, and spikes of rock shoot out everwhere, as all that’s left where I was standing is a very deep hole* *pops out of the ground behind you* Woohoo! Escape successful!

I like to think all "bad guys" are really just either misunderstood or victims. It's strange really, since I don't do that for real people lol.

 • Have you watched Hawkshaw’s video on it? He’s the one who proposed the theory (‘least, first one I saw). He had a lot of evidence for it. I’m iffy on sympathetic villains. Like, I love when the villain has a point, but it feels overdone these days. Sometimes we need some good ole fashioned “Mistress of All Evil” villains, like Maleficent. One thing I do always love is demons portrayed as sympathetic, though. Like, you’ve got these hulking monstrosities that are supposedly the bane of everything good in the world, but if you stop and look beyond the surface.. Well, as Pocahontas put it; ”You’ll find things you never knew you never knew!”

 • I've never even heard of Hawkshaw. Do you mean his theory for demons? Since sympathetic villains have been a thing for ages. But yes, sometimes a villain of pure evil works just as well. Case and point, Mother Brain.

 • It’s been forever since I watched this, so I spologize if it’s npt as solid as I remember. Most of Hawkshaw’s stuff is really good, though. Different stories definitely need different types of villains. I think that’s why I’m a little sick of relatable ones, because so many stories I see just seem to assume “if our villain has a point, they’re better!”.
