You DON'T HAVE to amass 15 motes... what part of that don't you get?!
So I'm playing Gambit... I drop motes when I exceed 5, as is my habit. Two others I'm playing with are at 14 and 13. They RUN RIGHT PAST THE BANK and go to the next area, because they just HAVE TO GET 15, right? Then we get invaded. I'm carrying 0, but the other three are carrying 15, 15, and 9 respectively. Whole team gets wiped. 39 motes trashed, that's half a round's worth.
And that's pretty much when I abandoned the match in disgust. Yes, I admit it. Not proud of it, but not particularly sorry, either. And if Bungie wants to penalize me, I totally accept that. I'd rather eat a Gambit time-out than finish a match that painful.
If you're carrying more than five motes, and you go past the bank, be smart. BANK them. If you've got ten and you don't bank them when you pass the bank, you're betraying your teammates with your recklessness. And don't give me that crap about wanting to drop an Ogre. I like it when an Ogre drops, because it gives me the ability to show off, to effectively invade without invading. I can OBLITERATE your stinking Ogre in THREE SECONDS with my FA shotgun, and you've pissed away 15 motes just as sure as if I came to your side and Sleepered you. And I'm mediocre at this game, so it's a safe bet the guys on the other side are better than I am and can demolish an Ogre just as fast if not faster. Three Phalanxes take caution and precision, might hold your adversary up for far longer. So please, don't stab your team in the back. Drop 5. Drop 7. If a crapload of them drops at your feet, drop 11 or 12. But don't insist that it's 15 or nothing. Because if that invader gets his way, it'll be the latter.

Everyone is always banking till 15. The ogre is a joke anyway. But people still don't know what an heroic public event is either so I have no hope for them to figure this one out. And oh, don't get me started on the drifter literally saying "bank and you'll get a prime evil" and some doofus runs off with the last motes and gets himself killed

The worse are those dummies who are off still killling even though the drifter is saying your team has enough to summon. Losing motes is the best way to lose gambit games.

1 ReplyI can't speak for others, but it's possible it's for one of the Gambit bounties, since that's the only time I do the 15 mote thing. Usually my Gambit matches are so lagged I can't even bank 1 mote, let alone risk failing to bank 15. :P

Most people that play gambit have trouble using a good loadout; it’s rare to see someone even using shotgun, let alone common sense with mote management.

Challenges, Bounties, and Triumphs say you DO have to deposit 15. See where the issues lie?

I don’t have a problem with people trying to cap at 10 or 15 as long as we’re just starting, but if we’re sitting on 70+ banked, it’s just common sense.

I use to have a nasty habbit of getting 15 motes, so I started to force myself to get 5 and bank, that way my team has a little bit of time to get more motes and bank. Thus preventing multiple blockers on our side.

"Oh but Ogre's deadlier than those" You sir I can tell you haven't dealed with either A: Dealing with groups of Phalanxes, or B: Getting physics'd into oblivion. Cause you'd be spending much more time dealing with a group of phalanxes then you would with an ogre. Ogre goes down with barrel stuffing. Phalanxes? Not so much cause you have to get around their shield and pray to the traveler he doesn't sen you flying into a wall or who knows where at mach 7. If it's a group of phalanxes with a knight all I can say is prepare your -blam!-. And in a game where who's team can summon the primeval the fastest and melt them? Time is of the essence if you're trying to get some wins. It's common sense.

He booped me into the invasion portal. 😖👀 Thankfully the enemy team had a derp moment and wiped right after banking. So by the time they respawned I was back in my arena. Ran like hell and banked. Normally I’m a five and done guy, but like I said lucky spawn. I feel your pain though. I’ve yelled at more than enough idiots in gambit. Edit- freaking autocorrect strikes again!

I don’t even step into gambit anymore because it just leaves me incredibly frustrated with how stupid and greedy people are. Gambit is fun in theory, but people with little strategy, poor problem solving, and terrible spatial or situation awareness ruin the mode entirely for me.
