I was wondering if I was supposed to get an expansion or something because everybody else got a 60$ game that I payed for.

Sometimes games, including Destiny releases, have been offered at discounted costs or free during specific promotions.

Bungie are giving players who had D2 before the offers were released on the PS4 and PC a "Veteran Pack" in December which will contain new exotic emotes, a emblem and a shader. The thing is players face this situation all the time with new games or DLC. Buy and play when everything is new or wait until the offers start. You wanted to play and payed. If you want the offers then next time wait a few months until the offers start for that game.
