The nine are 9 of a crew of 900 from a colony ship that went unaccounted for after it was attack and engulfed by one of the Darkness ships during the collapse. It is implied that they are awoken because everyone on the ship was torn apart and remade inside the distributary, but we'll have to see. There is nothing confirming anything about the Jovians being changed or making a pact with the darkness. Judging by the nature of the darkness and what it did to life just by being near it (Immediate paralysis, excruciating pain, and buildings ripped apart, as Cayde 6 recalled from a memory of his life during the collapse, and before that, the whirlwind, which destroyed the home world of the Eliksni) I doubt the darkness, at that point, was handing out vouchers for a pact.

<The Nine are also 9 Ghosts, an undefined amount of Deep-Orbit Minds, an undefined amount of Jovian colonists, an undefined amount of Ahamkara-related beings, and agents and emissaries. The Nine aren't JUST 9 missing Awoken.>

Edited by Ferus Lux: 11/14/2018 10:56:19 AMHaha no they are not. Those are rumors/legends and they read as such in the D1 grimoire. The recent lore mentioning a crew of 900 and 9 missing and then weeks later having an emissary at Queens Court pretty much confirms it. But there is not 9 of everything lol.

<Obviously there isn't 9 of everything, we still don't know how many Deep-Orbit Warminds the Nine have in their thrall or the beings related to Ahamkara... or truly how many Jovians there are.>

We don't even know if there ARE any deep orbit warminds because again, that lore you're getting is from myths and legends grimoire tab in D1. Destiny 2 retconned the Warmind story and now there is only one Warmind as far as we know. Everything else is theoretical because D2 doesn't even mention deep orbit warminds as a fact or even at all.

I stand corrected. So we'll go with that, but in this context these deep orbit warminds are clearly not part of the nine then, given how they are referenced in the exchange. As for the deep orbit minds, there must be a reason Bungie allowed the lore to make it. More recently, lore about Medusa, who calls herself a craftmind, surfaced. Apparently she survived the collapse and snuck onboard the colony ship Mara was on and witnessed the Awoken being transformed. During the Nines meeting with Mara, she mentions moving the "asset" from the grave of the first fleet. Could be a "deep orbit mind." We'll have to see.

<I wouldn't trust any record of "Medusa". Too many factors say otherwise.>
