There are some very sick people in this world. And while I don't support gun control (I know what it leads to), certainly something needs to be done.

  • Really, do you, because Australia imposed strict gun regulations, and it took 22 years until the next shooting occurred. Can you imagine that, 22 years of bbn peace and quiet.

  • Our problem isn't just easy access to guns. Plenty of other countries have armed citizens as well. But they don't have insanity like this. I am worried that once we start down the the road of treating all our people like criminals, it won't be easy to stop.

  • Thing is, most of those other countries have STRICT requirements. Mental health checks,b extensive training, etc. Whereas the US...doesn't have that

  • Unfortunately, we have the NRA, and the Brady Campaign, and the two organizations pretty much distrust each other. It's kind of like trench warfare. No one wants to give a little, because they're afraid their enemies will take more. Should there be some sort of evaluation for a person who buys a gun? Yes. But they should NOT have to give a demonstrable reason for owning a gun, the way they do in Britain. And the problem is, evaluations of mental health will likely lead to that. Should background checks be mandatory for every gun purchase or transfer? Yes. But they should be completed quickly and without fuss, and should only block criminals, not the essentially law-abiding. Should a person have to be over 21 to own a semiauto rifle? Probably. But, 18-year-olds should have access to other weapons: pump shotguns, lever-action rifles, et cetera. Anyone who can legally live alone should be allowed access to self-defense. And I've seen states trying to restrict ALL gun ownership to 21+, which I find manifestly unacceptable. Do we really need magazines with huge capacities? Doubtful. Soldiers go into battle with 30-round mags. Police officers carry, for the most part, 15-17 round magazines in their guns. Why would a civilian need 100? But if we limit magazines to 15 rounds (which I feel is adequate), then people will go for 10. Limit it to 10, they'll go for 7. And so on. Right now, Britain limits magazine capacities to 3, assuming you pass the insanely difficult process of being allowed a weapon at all.

  • The mental health checks would be very specific about the conditions that are automatic no's, which require ongoing evaluations, etc. And as for reasons, it'd be a question, but one that only has a few "wrong" answers. Namely ones that indicate either extremist or dangerously racist values
